Just wanted to let everyone know that one of the finest shows in the country, is no more.
Stoney has decided not to continue on with the Smoky Mountain Steel Guitar Jamboree.

Seems that the hassels have become more than it is worth. Hotel problems, scheduling and such.

This is a sad time to lose such a great show. In my opinion it has always been FIRST CLASS.

Being on Stoney's staff, I can say that I have always been treated with the utmost respect in Knoxville.

To you Stoney, Thanks for many great years of a superb show. We'll miss it.

Too Bad, I'm sorry to hear that ... Is this for sure Stoney? I hope there's a change of heart..But I understand how something this big with so many involved could be a real headache ...... My wife and friends enjoyed it so much and looked forward to it... A special thanks Stoney for the good times had by all.

Stoney, I can't believe the Smoky Mountain Steel Guitar Jamboree is ending. I always wanted to go to the show, but I was busy and all the great players and companies, ZumSteel, Emmons(the company for our steel guitars), Franklin, Carter, and Derby are all great companies. I'm sure John Hughey and the other players who were asked to play last year will miss this wonderful show. If things work out, I'd love to see the show running again. We're steel players who have a tradition that will never break. Your steelin' buddy, Brett

First steel show I ever went to, and I had a ball.

Wouldn't it be great if someone picked it up...

First and only show I've ever been to was this one last March. Had a great time, met some great people and heard some really great steel playing.
Now it seems as if my first was my last, as this is the one show which my job allows me to take time off for. My sentiments echo Theresas'- sadness.

Thanks, Stoney.

I played that show eight years and had a ball every time. Stoney & Lois are just like family to us. Sure hate to see the show stop. It was one of the best steel shows in the country thanks to the hard work of Stoney & Lois and their family. We wish you the best. Buck & Mitzi

Dear Stoney and Lois, As for me, an era has ended. You and your beautiful family always made me feel like I was part of the family. Your show was a class act from start to finish. I will always cherish all the great memories from all the Smokey Mountain Jamborees I had the privilege of attending. I say, thanks again, and may God always bless and keep you and your beautiful family. Love Ya'll, Jody.

This news saddens me deeply. This was my favorite of all the steel shows I have attended, besides it being the last show that Harold played before he died. There are many, many sweet memories and friends I have of that show. I am so sorry to see this end. God bless you, Lois and Stoney and I wish you well.

So sorry to hear that. I really enjoyed last years show and could visit my son too. Somebody needs to pick up the ball here and continue the show. Stoney, if you're reading this, try to find someone in your area that'll keep the show alive or another part of our instrument will be hurt. We need all the shows like this we can get.

Stoney - Thanks for the great years of allowing me to play staff guitar on your show. I can honestly say, there never was a steel player who graced your stage that I didn't learn something from. You and Lois are a class act and gave me some of my best memories of playing live with the best steel guitarists in the world (and piano too, Roy). Best, Boomer

We (Steel Guitar Nashville) too mourn the passing of a wonderful show, but we understand the problems. It looks like replacement steel shows are growing with leaps and bounds in Nashville. Every three months, Northern Tennesee Steel Guitar Club puts on a tremendous steel guitar show for members and non-members alike. Admittance is $5, which is alot less than any other show charges. The facilities are the very finest and motel accomodations are excellent and never crowded. Anybody that can drive to Knoxville once a year could definitely make it to Nashville and make at least one of these shows. The next one is October 10th and features Lloyd Green, Tommy White, John Hughey, Jim Murphy, Bobbe Seymour, Johnny Cox, Joan Herndon, Smiley Roberts and many more. If you need more information, just give us a call at 615-859-7666 or email us at sales@steelguitar.net.

Best Regards,
Bobbe Seymour & Teresa Forwalder

Stoney and Lois, truly a sad time. I to would like to thank you for allowing me to be your staff keyboardist for all the many years (way back to when we used to have lunch in your back yard before the show...what great fellowship ). Barbara and I also thank you, Lois and your family for making us feel like family and we will continue that relationship. Who knows, maybe this great show will awaken once again.

Stoney,

YOU have NO equal sir. You are simply the greatest. And your demeanor and ways are as soothing as a cool drink on a hot summer afternoon.

Never been a voice better fit to emcee a steel guitar show. I shall always cherish the way you graciously accepted my invitation and helple MC the Atlanta show.

Much good luck to you dear friend and may our Precious Lord bless you always,

carl

It saddens us to have to give the show up too, but there are a lot of circumstances that force us to do this. We would be glad to help someone carry it on. Our files are open to anyone who would want to. We will miss all of our friends being here, as they are all like family to us and will continue to be. We have had the greatest backup musicians anywhere and we appreciate them very much. Thanks to everyone.......Stoney and Lois

This is really sad! Putting on one of these shows is much more difficult than it appears.
Most of them are a labor of love, with not much thanks. Not that many years ago, there wasn't any shows. Nor was there any instruction stuff for steel guitar. I think the world of Stoney! God bless you!

Stoney,

As you know, you are the first to invite me to play at a steel guitar convention, and you have always encouraged me to push ahead. I will certainly miss the show, and don't think for a minute that the show could be continued at the same level by someone else. All the players came out to play for you and Lois. Thanks for all of the opportunities, and thanks for being a friend.

Stoney-
Sorry to hear the news about closing
your show. I'm just glad I got to make it
to the show last year. The show was every-
thing I expected- Great!
By the way, I didn't get you kicked
out of the hotel, or anything, did I?
Hope to see you in Lexington in Nov.
Your Friend,
