Dusty Rhodes was a well-known steel player around Bakersfield in the late '50s and early '60s.

I heard throught the grapevine that he later went to work for Capitol Records as a road man.

Does anybody know what happened to him?

Happy New Year, Everybody.

Hi John Paul, you know I have wondered that myself.
Some of the forumites might not know, but Dusty at one stage or another employed the talents of Buck Owens and Gene Moles in his group, was actually part of the Tacoma music scene for some time after leaving the West coast, the TV show he worked in the Pacific Northwest included future Stranger Don Markham and a young fella named Buck Owens who returned to CA in the late 1950s when his sides began to chart.

Dusty later returned to California in the 1960s where he was part of the Buck Owens scene. In an interview Ernie Hagar mentiones that he was a demo/studio player for Dusty, but to this day no-one is sure which studio or label this might have been for.
Ernie himself suggests that it was for Blue Book Music (owned by Buck Owens and Jack McFadden I believe), but I've been unable to find out anything for sure.
I don't know what happened to Dusty, but he did produce Tony Booth's debut LP which was for MGM in 1970. From what I have heard it is most likely that this was cut a Buck Owens studio with Buddy Emmons on steel.

He had a music store in or near Hollywood, CA around 1970. I know because I bought a used ShoBud LDG from him then that I still have. A fine person to deal with, me a total novice, and him showing me some basics on E9th even though he used a different copedant.

Hi, Jeff,

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Did you notice that I moved back to Texas? I just can't stay away, but then, who would want to?

Maybe Blackie Taylor might know about Dusty, I tried asking some of the Buckaroos crowd, but no-one seems to remember him at Buck's studio in the late 1960s. Still it was a busy time.
