I reside in Cumming, Wayne. Have heard a few stories about you and Julian in Birmingham from our mutual friend Sid Manley. I have worked with him and learned a heck of a lot over the past 15 years.

Hey Wayne and all fellow Georgia steelers. Right now Doug is starting a renovation of the music store. He is going to double the size of the store so we can have more picking room. I was there yesterday, and Doug said it would take about three or four weeks before completion. I will post a note here as soon as we get it all fixed up. There are some other Georgia steelers that have not signed in. They are Charlie Vaughn, Tim Hamilton, Larry Moore, Carl Dixon, Mac Atcheson, Larry Sasser, Bill Ferguson, Vern Kendrick, Bill Nicholson, Barney Miller and Garland Nash. I'm sure there are others, but I can't remember right now.

To my dear dear and wonderful friend Bob Farlow,

I do appreciate your including me in this list. But, I must tell you, I am NOT a steel player worth being included in any list in this world. I cannot play the steel worth a flip. I would have to be considered as the worst player who ever lived. I wish to my Lord and Savior I could play it. But I can't, even though I have tried with all my heart and soul for almost 60 years.

It would deliniate and be a travesty to any player in GA, or anywhere else, to even suggest that I am any where close to being worthy of inclusion in a Steel Guitar player's list.

But thanks soo much for your confidence.

God bless you man,

carl

I live in the great town of Norcross, GA. Pick an Emmons LeGrande D10 straight into either a NV400 or NV1000, depending on my mood.
By the way John Neff, I pick at a club in Athens, GA every other Friday & Sat. night. Come see me.

worse than i do,and im also sure that nobody
on earth enjoy's it any more than i do.If you
were to hear me play, you would probably feel
really good about your playing.

We'll be playing at the Brandy House on Roswell road in Atlanta on Feb 9, and the Georgia Theatre in Athens Feb 10. Let me know if you'd like to be on the guest list. If you'd like to check it out, I have a website under development at: http://mva.bgug.net/
Hope to meet you soon.

Yes Garland, you are a lap player, but let it be said that you play more pedals on a lap steel than most of us on a D10. Not to mention that you are a killer pedal player also.
You are my #2 idol and you know who is #1.
Don't try to steel (ha) my picking gig when you sit in for me while I'm in Plant City next weekend.

Hi fellow steelers, I'm a newbie living in Athens, GA. I haven't met John Neff yet but I know and work with his bandmate Philip. I'm a fan of his band, great work. I'd love to know about the music store that that was mentioned in an earlier post. Not too many stores that I know of sell or promote steels.

Let me know when the next Kennesaw jam is.

Hey Bill Cunningham and other Ga steelers,

I talked to Randy Sorrells while we were recording in Nashville back in November. He has sold his home in Cumming and moved to Manchester, Tennessee to cut down on drive time to catch the bus. I have his number if anyone needs it. Also, I have updated our band's web page and included a link to our mp3's. I invite everyone to click on the Tyler Wails Band link below and look for the "LISTENING ROOM" link. Give our songs a listen and tell me what you think. (that's Rob Hajacos on fiddle)
While you're there, check out our "TOUR DATES" page and see if we are playing anywhere near you and come out and see us.

Hello
I live in Duluth, and have been a student of the steel for about a year and a half. I practice on an Emmons S10 PP and Nashville 400. I wish I had picked up the steel in the early 70's when I first heard that sound, but instead picked up the bass.

Don't believe all that stuff Carl has been writing about he is no steel player. He has been very generous with his time and has helped me tremendously. Thanks Carl.

I have heard most of you play and I think the one's I've heard all have the right to brag. I have worked with a lot of you over the years and I have enjoyed it very much. I work with Bill Cunningham in the mountains and I know he plays well. Garland you played well many years ago and I'm sure you have not lost your touch. There are many good players in this area now. Many years ago, before I moved to Nashville, I worked with Charlie Vaughn, Vern Kendrick, Larry Sasser, Garland Nash along with with Gene Steele and several others. All these players were good then and still are. Since I have returned to this area it seems that there are a lot more steel player to listen to. But, I love the steel guitar so that makes me happy. I'm impressed with the talent we have in Georgia. I have worked with many good steel players in my years as a traveling musicman and I must say that the Georgia players don't have to back up to anyone. The one player that I have grown to love and respect over all is my Buddy Mac. He has forgotten more guitar than I'll ever learn. I hope you guys do have a jam, and when you do you can look for me on the front row. I hope I will hear from some of you I haven't seen or heard from in years.
By the way I live in the gateway city to Dallas, in Hiram, Georgia, almost in Douglasville.
I look forward to hearing you guys play.
I own an Emmons S10 about a 68 or 69 model

Georgia does indeed have some mighty fine steel guitar players. We are very blessed to have a myriad of talent here.

We are indeed blessed to have one that doesn't play anymore, much to our loss. And of course that is Mac Atcheson. Second ONLY to BE (IMHO). His mastery of the PSG is incredible. I know of NO one who has ever heard him who does not feel this way. One very fine steel player once said after watching him play,

"It is truly a humbling experience to listen to him pick!" NO truer words were ever spoken.

I would like to also sight another GA steel player that blows my mind; and that is Garland Nash. He can play pedals and tear you up.

But the thing that brings tears to my eyes, is his uncanny ability to emulate the great Jerry Byrd on lap steel. He is flawless at it. He is the ONLY man I ever heard that comes so close to Jerry, you would almost swear it was indeed JB if one closes their eyes.

I video taped a full hour of him playing "Jerry" with rythym guitar and bass. I sent a copy of it to Scotty. And he called me and just praised Garland's playing.

He has a touch that is exceedingly rare on our beloved instrument. He even can do Buddy Emmons' "Four Wheel Drive" on lap steel. YES!!, lapsteel.

NNOBODY can do that! Not even you Garland. But you DO!! I got it on video tape from Saluda bubba

God bless you, Mac, and all Ga steel guitar players,

carl

Robert,

Glad to hear it! Hope I can come! (Parenthood does have its constraints! It can even take priority over PSG sometimes! But I still "steel" a few minutes practice here and there!)

Hey, how come we've got 39 posts in this thread and I'm the only one below the sandgnat line down here in Savannah? Where are all the southeast Georgia steelers? (Hint: The answer is one of the reasons I wanted the low-maintenance Carter Starter!)
