I believe these are from 1976, with Dusty Drapes and the Dusters-Looks like Peggy's Hi Lo in Boulder. I'm not sure I was even old enough to be in the place when I took 'em. Must have had a good fake ID!

Many more on the site in the photo album.

Well, I guess he had to look like something back then, so it might as well have been that.

Speaking of Jr. Brown . . . he played with the SNL band on the SNL Show this past Saturday (02-24-01). I would have rather watched him than the guest band which was Dave Matthews (YUCK!!!)

My first band on the pedal steel was with Dusty Drapes & the Dusters around 1973. See "Events and Announcements"...

but I also played with Junior in 81...just a few years after these pics... and he was well on his way then to getting his current "look". Actually, I think Dusty influenced him quite a bit in the image dept.

Dusty was quite a character-His band played at my wedding at the Boulderado Hotel-he got real close to breaking national, but just couldn't seem to quite keep it together. For quite a while there he was THE Colorado act. Did a lot of opening dates and such, had this big old horn section with Fly McClard. They toured almost nonstoip west of the Mississippi, and as he put it "We're eatin' dirt, but we're havin' a good time". One thing about Dusty-The fun meter was ALWAYS on 10. Another A list guitar player who worked with the Dusters was Terry McClanahan-man what a God. I heard he went to LA to do studio work, and I haven't heard of him since.

Thanks for the Pictures- Junior must be out touring now, he's coming thru Minneapolis March 8 to 1st Ave. Never could compare to the old Peggy's Hi-Lo in Boulder. What a great place. God rest it's demolished honky tonk soul.
