Shot Jackson, did most of the early ones,Jimmy Crawford did "midnite Special" . A truly incredeble turnaround,Very wild for this period of time,(cant believe the producer let him do it).The producer must have been my old friend,Walter Haines.Buddy may have done a few with Shot, I dont remember exactley,so I'll shut up.Bobbe

Stu Basore did at least three albums. "Burning Memories", on which he played an old Fender 1000 that Weldon Myrick once owned...the same one I had used for eight years. He also played his (then) new P/P Emmons on "Country All The Way". I believe that was in '65...maybe '66. He also played that guitar on Kitty and Johnny's "We'll Stick Together" album. After a few years with Kitty and Johnny, Stu left and went on the road with Ray Price for a short time in the late '60s. Stu is a fine guy, and a fine player as well. Over the years, he has done a lot of session work in Nashville.

Stu is the most under rated steeler in the world,Done more with less accolades than anyone Iv'e ever known! He did more to help me when I first came to Gnashville than anyone. He gave me sessions,TV shows,Live gigs Opry spots and more. Stu is one of the greatest people in my life,(hope he doesnt read this,Im not sure he can read anyway). A finer weirdo you'll never meet! I think this is the first time I ever said thankyou to him,Thankyou Stu Basore! You'v made my life a lot better! Bobbe Seymour

Bobbye, good to see the accolades for Stu Basore. Played on a recent gospel show with him in Hot Springs Ark. This guy is for real.Fortunate to have met him a few years ago. Although there is no reason for him to remember me he still makes me feel that he does. [This message was edited by louie hallford on 02 May 2001 at 06:12 PM.]

I HAVE to reply! Thanks Bobbe for the kind remarks. I did a number of Kitty's albums: Those mentioned and others. Donny, glad to hear you remember the ones done on the Fender 1000. I love this Forum! Be cool. Stu.

Stu, you are one of the most tasteful players out there. What great touch and execution. Your style is just what I strive for. Hope to see you live soon. Good health and prosperity to you.

I'll agree Stu is a terrific player and it's fun to watch him in the movie "Nashville" by Robert Altman circa 1966. He's still great to watch and listen to at the NTSGA events and at the the R.O.P.E. meetings at the Nashville Nightlife Club. ------------------ B#

Leigh,I've got the book "The Honky Tonk Angels" by Walt Trott, it talks a lot about the 1952-1957 sessions but it's not real crystal clear as to who played on the later sessions. Kitty used Shot Jackson, Bud Isaacs, and Harold Morrison (yep) on sessions up through 1957. After that it appears that she used Jimmy Crawford, Billy Bowman, Stu Basore, George Edwards, very likely Russ Hicks, possibly Johnny Siebert, and maybe Buddy Emmons. One must remember that not only did Kitty have a lot of hits, she recorded an enormous catalog of songs (she covered everything on the market) and also re-cut some of her earlier hits when stereo came along. So it's likely that some other well-known steeler(s) worked a session or two with her somewhere along the line, but the book doesn't say. I betcha Johnny Wright has it all written down and stashed somewhere in one of his file cabinets but he ain't talkin' about it and neither is Miss Kitty, so we have to trust the book for now until the unnamed steeler(s) identify themself. Altman's film 'Nashville' came out in 1975. Last year there was a 25th Anniversary viewing at a local indie cinema last year.

I have always remembered one particular song that Miss Kitty did called Password. I am reasonably sure that was Pete Drake playing his own lick on C6th. It was everywhere in those days. Even Teresa Brewer had it on one of her songs. But in the Password version, Pete put a whole new twist on it that really got my attention. I thought at the time it was some of the prettiest playing he had ever done. Especially when he turned it back into a Dom7th to reintro the bridge. Regards, Paul

I have an album called "Sing it Country"and, as usual, no credits at all. But on one song she says, "oh... play it Russ Hicks." So Russ did at least one!Winnie
