![]() ![]() Hi everybody, I'm a "newbie" here, just got around to sending in my two bucks although have been reading your messages for a while. HI to my fellow Las Vegans Bill Nauman, Buzz Evans, Tommy Wayne and buddies Les Pierce and Bill Bailey. Anybody know a steel player named Jim Garrett? Used to go by Jim-Bob Garrett when I knew him in the late '70's...lost track of him, saw him playing with Sammy Kershaw a few years back. Anyway, glad to finally be able to post here. |

![]() ![]() Thanks Tom, glad to hear he's doing well. He and his brothers John and Darrell were buddies back in the late '70's but I lost track of them when I moved to Vegas and took a "regular job" (UGH!) for about 16 years. I'm back into music full-time again but always wondered whatever happened to them, couldn't find them in their hometown phone listings. If anyone knows how to reach any of the Garretts please pass along HI from Jim Phelps for me, I'd appreciate it. I don't mind anyone passing my email address along, and my website URL is: http://jimphelps.net Thanks alot guys. |

![]() ![]() Jim, Glad to see your finally here, welcome. I only saw them once, but the Garrett Brothers were definitely one of the "hot" bands of the time, for sure. Hey Jim, be sure and add your web page url to your signature so that the address comes up every time you post, automatically. I think it's worth the visit, and I would say that even if we weren't friends. Let us know how the MSA is working out, too. Take care and post often, Les [This message was edited by Les Pierce on 17 June 2001 at 06:31 PM.] |

![]() ![]() Hi Les, nice to see you. This forum is amazing! Well thanks, I'll put my URL up then. Yep, I'm really anxious to see the MSA, having it delivered to Lorena's house so I don't even get to see it 'til I get out there. I put a new pickup (Lawrence 710) in my old Sho-Bud S-10 and it sounds GREAT now and no hum but still really happy to have another MSA. FYI, bought the pickup and the MSA from Bobbe Seymour and he was great in every respect. Well I'll post this and see if I did the signature right. Take care Les, great to hear from you. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() If anyone knows how to get in touch with Kenny Chesneys steel player Jim Bob please let me know. We used to cross paths quite a bit in the 80's around Billings Montana. I just checked Kenny Chesneys schedule and they are playing here in Portland June 30th. I'd like to catch up with Jim Bob but I don't think simply buying a ticket to the show will do it. Thanks. ![]() ![]() Anybody know what brand of steel Jim-Bob played with Sammy Kershaw? I'm pretty sure it was a Universal and looked like a grey color to me. It always drove me nuts that I couldn't make out the logo when I would see him on TV. [This message was edited by Jerry Overstreet on 25 June 2001 at 08:12 PM.] |

![]() ![]() When I knew him years ago he played a smoke-colored Sho-Bud Double-10 but he could be playing anything by now. |

![]() ![]() When last I saw Jim Bob he was playing a white custom built guitar that had been made for him by someone in Montana. That was in Pueblo,Co at the State Fair with Kershaw about 5 or 6 years ago. He said he was having a lot of trouble with pedal and knee lever return but you could not tell it out front. I also saw him playing that same guitar on TV several times later. I first met him and his brothers when they were teens, Jim Bob was betwen 11 & 14 as I recall. They spent quite a lot of time in Colo Spgs during the early to mid 70's. I was quite surprised when Jim recognized me in the audience when we had not seen each other for over 20 years. He and all his family were and are top shelf talent. I am sure with proper management and guidence in their youth they could have made the top of the business. Jim has worked his way into a mighty fine player. I heard him when he was just beginning and at the top of his game. If you get the chance to speak with him at a show you will find him cordial and sincercely friendly. That's the result of his raisin'.
