Has anyone on the forum used a Stewart PA 200 power amp for their steel guitar?

I'm considering one to use with an Evans rackmount preamp to power my Sierra S-14.

For those that have used this power amp I have a few questions: What were you using it with (P.A., guitar, keyboard,...)? What was your honest opinion of it's performance? Can you compare it to a Stewart World 1200 in an instrument application? What was your preamp going into the Stewart? What kind of speaker system were you driving?

I hope I'm not asking too many questions.

Thanks in advance for any responses. They're greatly appreciated!

Keep on pickin'!
Glenn

I use one in my main guitar rack with a SansAmp PSA-1 preamp. The main things about these little suckers to remember is that they MUST have a cooling fan on them and they MUST use both sides and you MUST use a proper ohm load on the speakers. Now, it's true that you can run them with one channel, but they heat up really fast when you do that. Do NOT overdrive the imput with a really hot signal or it will blow up. Those little red leds are there for a reason! Unlike a tube amp, the only thing that will happen to it if you overdrive it is that you will have to send it back to the factory for repair. No power stage overdrive for these suckers!

As long as you have a decent preamp in front of it, you should be able to get enough volume out of it. Gain stages can be tricky, so experiment. Basically, treat it with care and you should be fine.

All times are Pacific (US)
