![]() ![]() This is not really urgent right now, however it may be necessary in the future to do some adjustments on my ShoBud ProII, late ´70s. I´m talking about
In other words, most all of the nuts found on a ShoBud. Some of those mentioned probably are identical. First of all, can anybody tell me what those sizes are. I took my caliper rule, which of course is metric, to them and compared it with an inch ruler. In some cases, I measured 3/8" or 5/16" but I´m not sure, it´s not a very exact method. Does anybody have addresses of stores where I can order them. They are very hard to find over here where everything is metric. This is one fine guitar that I´ve got here and I don´t want to ruin anything by using inappropriate tools such as pliers. ![]() ![]() Joe, here's a list with SAE and metric conversions of what you are likely to find. the 'allen wrench' screws are socket head cap screws (SHCS) and with out a head, set screws. 6-32 means it's a #6 screw with 32 threads / inch (25.4mm), so it's .138" = 3.5mm. 1/4-20, 5/16-18 and 3/8-16 are coarse thread bolts, their respective fine threads are: 1/4-28, 5/16-24 and 3/8-24. The 1/4" nut usually uses a 7/16" wrench (11mm), the 5/16" usually uses a 1/2" (13mm) and the 3/8" usually uses a 9/16" (14 or 15mm). The 10-32 is a fine thread and it's respective coarse thread is 10-24. American allen wrench sizes for SHCS and set screws, what you will usually use: [This message was edited by chas smith on 05 December 2001 at 04:16 PM.] |

![]() ![]() Just my pennies worth, but if you are using ball end allen wrenches they may not give a snug enough fit on the small allen head screws. I have had 3 Sho-Buds , Professional, ProII and a ProIII , there were no metric sizes used on any of them. I would recommend a quality allen set , not ball end ,from perhaps Sears ( Craftsman ) or another quality supplier. My Carter uses, 5/32, 3/32 and 1/16 hex nuts, Ball end wrenches would not do the job. My current Sho-Bud Professional has 1/16 and 3/32 on it as well. Unless someone changed all the hex heaad screws over the years to metric, I would think that Shot and the gang stuck with american sizes. Good Luck |
