The ACMs were, of course, a pretty dismal affair all-in-all. But Dolly had a dobro player who sounded great from what little I could hear. Anyone know who it was? |

Don't know who he was but I also enjoyed that part.
Gotta 2nd your opinion, the awards generally sucked. My God what was that hippy-hop Wynona crap at the end!? |

I didn't see it, but it must have been Jerry Douglas. He was on the record, along with Sam Bush, Bryan Sutton, Stuart Duncan, et. al...I heard someone say that it was "the all star lineup"...that would be them...Tab ------------------ Tab Tabscott "Bud Carter is a demi-god" |

The Dobro playing was hot.I could accept all that stuff as country music, until Wynnona's go-go boys came on. That ain't country. |

I really didn't get a good look at the dobro player but, from the glimpse I got it sure didn't look like Jerry Douglas. The little playing I could hear, though, certainly made it sound like it was a great player. (Well, ok, maybe not as talented as Wy's people, but - hey - pretty good for someone who wasn't a dancer... ) [This message was edited by Chris Bauer on 04 May 2000 at 06:18 PM.] |

Hmmmm. One vote for Mr.Witcher and one for whatever the picker's equivalent is of lip-synced (pick-synced???). I know most of the tracks were pre-recorded so that certainly mighta been one of the many that were. Anyone who played (or "played") the show wanna jump in on this one? |

Yes, the track was canned, my track was canned too......but I played the track, and then synchronized to myself. Clint has us record a 'live' track on a show, and that's what gets played, that way our band gets payed for the performance. Almost every band on the show is playing to track. The vocals are live.....hence the 'variable' sound (and criticism) that can come from the show.....like, 'the band was great, but the vocal was off'. That's because the only 'live' thing on the show was the vocal. Alot of performers won't take the time(or expense) to record a fresh track for a TV show. We(Clint) have always done it that way. So back to the question(?) Yeah, Jerry played on Dolly's album, the guy on the show was playing(?) to track....not live. |
