I have a rather expensive Gibson acoustic in a local gibson dealer for sale and of course being a gibson dealer he has access to the Dobro line of resonator guitars. I saw on Gibsons web site a picture of Jeff Heffernon's new quilted maple 60-D Classic Dobro. Its hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a rather nice instrument. I have no experience with the resonator guitar but really want to take it up. Anyone care to comment on new Dobro resonator guitars. |

I have a 1974 OMI Dobro,a 1998 Gibson Dobro, and a Bobby Wolfe custom mahagony Dobro. I happen to like the sound and tone on the Gibson better than my OMI. The Gibson also has better quality tuners and a bound fretboard which my other one doesn't.The Bobby Wolfe Of course kills both of them. For not a lot more than a Gibson Dobro, you could purchase a custom made Dobro. Come to think of it,when I look back and remember that my '74 Dobro cost $200.00,it does take on a sweeter tone.------------------
