Just bought a "Regal" resophonic, and I want to tune it to an "E" tuning. Anyone have this tuning and string guages? I appreciate it.Patrick |

Tuning, high to low: E B G# E B E Gauges: actually, I find the D'addario "Jerry Douglas" dobro set (16-56, I think), although theoretically for G tuning, works pretty well. Kelly Joe Phelps uses a regular guitar set (13-56) but puts the second string .017 as the first string, and buys an extra .020 to use as the second. Experiment, or do a search on "E tuning" in this forum and find out a Whoooole lot more...! Nick PS: in searching, also look for posts by Pete Grant, who is a great proponent of E, with solid arguments in support. |

Here's what I have found works pretty well. If you pull the 2nd or 3rd strings, you must keep the gauge low. 1st .017 2nd .018 to .020 3rd .036 4th .045 5th .052 6th .056 to .059 |

I also find it pretty usuful to use G#BEG#BE (low to high)sometimes. Depending on the instrument, a standard resonator string set seems to work just fine for either tuning. |
