What are the common tunings for these?

OOPS, I didn't look before I posted. A few posts back, 8 string tunings were posted, what about 7 strings? Does anyone know on an 8 string if the neck is the same width as a 6 string with the strings closer together, or is the neck wider?

There aren't really common tunings for seven string guitar because they're relatively rare. I'd probably use one of these tunings:
open E (bass to treble):
E G# B e g# b e'
open G
G B D g b d g'
C6/Am7
A C E G a c e

For 7 string(like a Sho-Bro) I'd use E7...E,B,G#,E,D,B,E.....8 STRING I'd use C13, either E,C,A,G,E,C,Bb,BassC, or put a G on top and lose the Bass C and I THINK the necks are a bit wider...(not sure tho, I've only seen 7 string Sho-Bros, and they are a bit wider)

At one time I did have a 7 string ShoBro which was tuned to a G6th of sorts. It had the regular G tuning but had an E note right in the middle at the 4th position. Low to high it was: G B D E G B D. One of the worst trades I ever made was this guitar for a Telecaster which I don't have any more either. On my 6 string Dobro I still use this tuning minus the low G.

On my 7-strings, a ShoBro and a ShoBud, I use the E tuning listed above by Brad. Works great.

All times are Pacific (US)
