Anyone know where to get or have email-able/downloadable chord charts for songs like "Sand", "Makalapua", "Beautiful Kahana" etc? I found a friend to accompany me on rhythm guitar but he doesn't know these kinds of tunes.

Thanks

Bill

Bill...

To find Hawaiian songs, you'd probably need to buy some Ukelele song books of Hawaiian Standards. This will atleast show the chords needed for the particular tunes, even though you're not using a uke. I'm sure your rhythm guitar player will have some type of chord chart for standard guitar, so he could find the same chords on his guitar. Try the below link for starters...

Bill, try these sites. There's a lot you DON'T want here but maybe something you DO?

Bobby Lee posted a chart for SAND a long time ago .. try a search to see if it survived the long-ago system crash.

Bill,
I was at Borders today and they had exactly what you are looking for...it's called ALOHA COLLECTION OF HAWAIIAN SONGS (softcover book)

Thanks for the great ideas.

Anyone familiar with "King'g Book of Hawaiian Melodies"? Does this have chord charts? There's an updated version with a CD out for under $30 (saw it on Elderly).

Aloha Bill,
I have a copy of the King's book.....it IS the bible, but, it's written for
piano and voice and all the key signatures are "wrong" for guitar(most
everything is in F)...so unless you enjoy transcribing and changing keys, I
wouldn't recommend it....the ALOHA COLLECTION OF HAWAIIAN SONGS ...would be
a much better choice in my opinion. It is cheaper...has as many songs, the
keys are "correct"....and has the melody line for vocals or steel.
Aloha,

While I deeply respect Jerry's "Beautiful Kahana", truly a gorgeous rendition by the Master...I gotta tell you Bill Stafford will bring the tears to your eyes when he plays "Beautiful Kahana" on his pedal (oops! I mentioned THAT word!) guitar. Bill is the only guy I have heard who can do tonal justice to Hawaiian music on a pedal guitar...I said THAT word again!
