Does anyone know who made these guitars? Could it have been Supro? I have a 6 string with strings thru the pickup. Did they ever make an 8 string model? > > Thanks GB |

Most were made by Valco or Supro. Valco either bought out Supro, or was owned by Supro, I believe. I don't recall an eight with the Airline name, but there might have been one, somewhere along the line. I still have my "Rocket" Airline steel, which was made by Valco! |

I also have a "Rocket", a real cool steel. I thought that it was made by National because of the Roman numeral fretboard. |

Valco Co. of Chicago made instruments and amps under various brand names for other companies. Airline was made by Valco for Montgomery Ward. Valco also made Silvertone (for Sears), Oahu, Supro, National, and even some steels for Grestch. Rumor has it that they would build to any company's specs with a minimum order of 1000 units. In 1967 Valco bought out Kay and Kay/Valco went bankrupt and closed in 1969. ------------------ My Site | Doug's Free Tab

Thanks for the info. Valco made some great stuff. I have a Supro Thunderbolt amp (class A) made by Valco in the 60's, and it sounds amazing, and so does the Airline lap steel. > > Thanks GB |
