Hi everybody,

I tried amplifying my Melobro with Fishman preamp through my Evans amp, but I guess it is not very easy combining psg and dobro through one and the same amp because you need much more signal.

How do you guys amplify your resophonic guitars? Do you use those special amps/speakers for acoustic guitars? Or do you go straight through the PA with mikes?

I am thinking of combining the fishman and a mike. Would that be a good idea?

Tom

I mike into the PA, but I have been thinking about spending the money on one of the Ashdown amps. I like their Peacemaker series for electric guitar and their Accoustic Radiator series for standard accoustic. They also make a model designed for resonator guitars.

I either run an AT mini-gooseneck mic or my LRBaggs preamp into the PA or I've got a powered JBL PA small PA cabinet that I feed the microphone or preamp into.

I use a McIntyre pickup(the old style, definitely NOT the Feather)in my Guernsey, straight into a Crate CA-60. It's not terribly expensive, is a stereo amp(2-30 watt amps, into 2 8" speakers, with a terrific chorus, and XLR out, to go to the board). I also use this amp when I plug in my acoustic-electric guitar, and even used it for a steel amp till I got my Peavey.
Give it a try, you won't be sorry.

My dobro sounds the best through my Mesa Boogie, even though I have a couple of Webbs. It surprised me.

I use two Fishman transducers in parallel, one on the spider and one on the underside of the cone about two-thirds towards the narrowest part of the cone. Sometimes I use the no-longer-available Passac preamp in between. Sounds really good.

You ought to check out the Yorkville acoustic guitar amplifiers. Last time I looked, they came in 2 versions: a 50 Watt model and a 100 Watt model.

I use the 50 Watt model. It has 2 channels: one with bass, treble and a notch filter, the other with just volume. It has a spring reverb in it also. With an 8" speaker and a piezo - you would be surprised on how much clean and clear, loud sound you can get out of it. Also, it is very light - maybe 25 lbs.

I use it for fiddle, acoustic guitar and dobro in a band that has electric bass and drums. Works great!

Fender Acoustasonic SFX or SWR Strawberry Blonde Combo...(unless you use a nice Mic/Preampw/ eq...then a REALLY clean Power Amp..like a McIntosh 2300 or the Power amp section of a Hiwatt...matters the size of Venue!

I vote for the AER. I own a SWR and a Pendulum preamp, and have tried pretty much everything out there, and the AER is in a class by itself when the dobro is concerned.

Do a search for dobro pickups. There has been alot of disscussion. But, I use a McIntyre (old one) p/u and a small condenser mic run into a Rane AP 13 pre-amp and then into the sound board. Sounds very close to acoustic. I think the key is the EQ on the Rane. You can adjust the tone to filter out the highend of the p/u as well as avoid feedback.

FYI..

There is a new Fishman PU that looks promising. It was jointly developed by Fishman and Paul Beard (so the package says) and attaches via the spider/resonator set screw, which threads into the PU.

Easy installation on this one.

Sorry, forgot to jot down the model #.
