I have some friends that have an old double neck Supro lap steel guitar in good shape. It is very old, but in good shape other than being dirty and needing cleaning. It is a six string guitar. Does anyone have any idea what a guitar like this in good shape would be worth? It has the blond pearlized finish on it. When I inspected the guitar it had no cracks in the finish and the fretboard was in excellent shape. The nuts at the top of the neck were not even cracked. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Based on the limited description, it sounds like a Supro Twin from 1948-1955. If you can find the serial number (a small metal plate on the back of the guitar near the tuners) we can tell you the year the guitar was made.
A photo would greatly help identify the specific model.
The 2002 Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists the Supro Twin in excellent condition as being worth between $350 and $450.

Thanks,, I am unable to get a picture of the instrument,, but the serial # is V35499. To describe the guitar it is blond pearlized finish. The scheme of the fingerboard is circles, triangles, squares, diamonds. The color is black background with figures as described above. No cracks whatsoever in the fingerboard. Has the original, ( I think it is bakelight bar with the guitar) I have never seen one of these. I think the volume knobs are also bakelight. The electric input is the old type of input instead of the quarter inch jacks of guitars of today. I really appreciate this and I think the folks that have the instrument will be very happy that the instrument is worth something.
Thanks again,

According to previous posts about Valco/National/Supro/et al serial numbers, that guitar was made in 1951.

There is a similar sounding guitar on eBay at this very moment; a Supro dbl.neck with light colored, pearl-like finish. Might be a place to compare guitar/pricing.

Hey Douglas, I have been getting pricing information together (for my upcoming divorce hearing)for all of my instruments, amps and studio gear through four reliable sources. Orion Bluebook, www.bluebook.com; Ebay completed auctions, www.ebay.com; Elderly Instruments, www.elderly.com; and Gruhn Guitars, www.gruhn.com. I saw a doubleneck Supro listed, but they charge for each price you get. It usually costs $3.99 per single quote, but they have had an introductory offer for $.99 for the 2003 guide. Of course the books are available on this site as well as the CD roms. Normally I am not too impressed with bluebook values as they seem low and don't take into account many factors such as condition and "real world" values (what someone will actually pay for an instrument if they want it". Much like the auto bluebooks, I view it as a vauge idea of an intruments value. However if you search the "vintage musical instruments" category, I tend to agree with most of their quotes that I have seen. They seem to be more fair in their quotes for vintage guitars. I hope this helps.

Doug, take a look at the Supro double-neck Ray mentions: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=921857087&rd=1

Look familiar? To the best of my knowledge, the "X8339" serial number is from 1952.

All times are Pacific (US)
