The only thing it has is the word Gibson, no ther markings on it. It sure sounds good.Plays great. I just was wondering what it might be worth. It was given tome.

Hi Ron

I'm definitely no authority on post-war Gibsons, but just to give us a better idea...does your steel look like any of these?

Ron,

I don't know the exact worth of your instrument, but I do know that in recent years these lap model Hawaiian steels are increasing in value.

I bought a pre WWII Silver Ricky for around $238 in the 80's. Today I'm told it's worth well over $1000. I don't know it's actual value, but I like to use it on certain recording dates and shows.

GOD bless you!

Jeff Ah Hoy,
It looks like the second picture you posted and sounds great in mint condition.

Thanks,

If it's the second one Jeff posted, that's a Gibson BR-9 lap steel. These are the most common Gibson lap steel out there; supposedly around 15,000 were made all together.
The GuitarBase web site shows them ranging from $299 to $699, but recent ones on eBay have sold for $315 and $400 USD .

Hello Ron.
I have had Br-9 gibsons every since they were first made . I presently have two.
The early models came out I believe about 1948 they had a high gloss enamel finish. Then in 1950 or maybe 51 they went to a matte finish whice was not glossy and looked a lot softer.I think this guitar while not having killer tone is a very nice playing instrument. They also made a Br-9 amplifier and a lot of them were purchased as a set.I still play mine and love the slants and harmonics on them.I was 14 years old when I learned to play Roy Wiggins tear drops .If you are not familiar with them ,listen to Eddy Arnolds Bouquet of roses. He put the tear drops between the verse and the chorus. If you need any more info on this great little steel send me an E-mail.
