Steve Howe of Yes uses a Fender Dual 6 Stringmaster. He is one of the few who uses the "lap" steel (he stands up!) in such a divergent form of music. Steel can be a very versatile instrument in the right hands! We should appreciate all the users that keep the instrument alive. Howe is why I bought mine. Here are photos from August 2002 in Florida.Follow this link and then scroll up and down. Steve Howe is one of the musicians I interviewed for my book on lap-style guitar. He truly loves the instrument and he plays it in some innovative and idiosyncratic ways. I've sent an e-mail to the webmaster's address listed as I'd like to get permission to use that photo. You don't have anything to do with the site, do you?[This message was edited by Andy Volk on 09 February 2003 at 02:31 PM.] |

Andy, I don't have anything to do with the site. The admin's are very easy to work with and are very responsive. The photos are submitted by fans so the admin's would know about permissions. The 45 degree cables are attachments to a stand with wheels. He rolls it to his right when not playing it. Yes, he has aged, but that photo exaggerates it a bit! Lighting can do that. I was at a show in November 2002 and he's not that bad! I think he's 55-ish.[This message was edited by Paul Osbty on 09 February 2003 at 05:11 PM.] |
