I'd like to hear opinions on the stainless and chrome plated Scheerhorn bars--both in terms of tone and life.Besides the hefty price tag for the stainless bar, there are other factors which have prevented me from buying one. Either by dropping the bar or my cat knocking it off the table, my chrome Scheerhorn bar has taken several falls onto hard ceramic tile floors. This has resulted in a number of dings on the sharp edge used for pull-offs. Dinging a $30 bar is bad enough. I'd hate to ding-up a $70-80 bar. I know the stainless bar can be polished, but I'm not so sure dings at that location on the bar could be moved by smoothing and polishing without ruining the contour of that all-important leading edge. Has anyone been through this? Maybe I should use a net when I play in a room with a tile floor. But what should I do when Annette is not around? Rimshot please. |

I have used both bars. I wore out (through?) the plating on the chrome one.It took a couple of years, but it still wore through. I love the feel of the stainless steel one. In the hand it feels the same as the chrome, but against the strings it's great. I have used it for a while (a year or so) and it never even needs to be buffed out. As far as tone difference...I don't hear any. I went stainless figuring if I kept wearing out bars...two chrome cost the same as one stainless steel. |

Those are something, Rick. I was wondering about how that would work on a bullet bar, half wood and all, until I realized that was a pretty dumb thing to wonder.

Thanks Rick and Aaron. I checked the Resoguit list for comments on the GS bars and the feedback seems good. I had been to the GS website months ago, before Shubb began to make production model. I like the idea of feeling wood in my hands and at $35 the price seems right. So I took the plunge and ordered the Shubb GS bar.I'll post my comments after I receive the new bar. |
