I have an 8 string and a 6 string non pedal guitar, both with legs. They have the 2 single coil pickups with the blend pot and a tone and volume pot as well. They have the "ash tray" key head. The 6 string (#1184) is older with a sparkle gold finish. It seems to be heavier than the newer 8 string and sounds much better. The characters of the Fender logo have the more squared look on the script as opposed to the newer rounded look on my S-8 (#2312). I'm wondering what model these are and what years the were made, or any other info. I checked Brad's Page of Steel and didn't see them. Thanks, Dave Zirbel[This message was edited by Dave Zirbel on 18 May 2003 at 10:13 PM.] |

They sound like earlier versions of the Deluxe 8 and Deluxe 6, although I don't remember ever seeing one with a gold sparkle finish. Any way you can post some pictures or links to pictures so we can see what you have, Dave?

Hey Dave; just from your small description; they are called Fender Deluxe-6 and Fender Deluxe-8 with the Stringmaster style pickups. The 6-string is heavier and sounds better because it is the late 50's Swamp Ash....and your 8-string is probably from later in the 60's.... Does your 6-string have the tweed(light brown/yellow case and the 8-string has a black case???? If so; than I'm correct so far from your small decription...ha... ...and like Brad; I've never seen a gold sparkle thingy...ha...as it must have been re-finished/painted/sparkled up.... You can always look under the tuning key ashtray pan....on the wood is the date...yee haa Ricky[This message was edited by Ricky Davis on 19 May 2003 at 11:06 PM.] |

Ricky, you are correct about the cases. The 8 has a black one with a plastic Fender logo. The 6 has a discolored tweed case. The gold finish looks original because it is worn out. I'll check under the hood when I change strings. I don't have a way to post pics yet. Sorry Brad. Thanks everyone! Dave Z |
