Did Fender make a double-six string Stringmaster style guitar? If so, I would imagine there aren't too many of these floating around.

NO,,Fender never made a double 6 Stringmaster

I recently borrowed a Fender double 6. Each neck had two pickups. Looked and sounded like a Stringmaster/Deluxe 6 to me! Are you telling me it's a fake?

I've seen at least two of them out here in L.A. A lady named Lauren Ellis plays one and I've checked it out up close. It might not have been called a Stringmaster but it had all the earmarks of one - two seperate stairstep necks bolted together w/diamond shaped covers over the bolts, two pickups per neck w/blender,butterscotch paint job,4 legs etc, etc.I think hers has a 22.5" scale.Perhaps it is a fairly rare double-neck D-6 version of the 2 pickup Stringmaster-ish "Deluxe" which came in S-6 or S-8 and stood on 3 legs. Yes they do exist. -MJ-

The doubleneck six string model with Stringmaster features was called the Dual 6. The earlier model was referred to as the Deluxe 6.

Why are you getting so upset? Using the word Fake was not necessary,I have been with Fender from 1949 until my leaving CBS Fender
in 1975. I have never seen what you refer to
is that cause for you making reference to me saying that you have a Fake? OK so you saw one,,great I' certain it sounded every bit as good as any other Fender guitar.

MJ. that is news to me,,but after all the years I worked for Fender I find that there are many people who have seen more than I have, perhaps there is more I can learn about
the company I worked for all those years. if this is so, as far as the guitars you saw,it is news to me, I learn something everyday and today is no exception.

Thank You. edited to add Brad is correct. The Dual Six as you can see is in reality a Stringmaster with every feature as those with 8 strings.

My catalogue shows the retail price of $215.00 for the guitar $49.50 for the 4 telescoping legs and $43.50 for the case.
I myself have never seen one,and they were not as popular at least in my market.

Thanks Brad.

Tony I promise not to lie to you ever again. Lighten up,its better for your health

Jody, I'm really sorry. I wrote that with a smile - guess that didn't come across. From reading your posts on the Forum, and what everyone says about you, I know you're the real expert. And I wouldn't put it past someone to stick a Fender transfer on an old Guyatone! Really looking forward to your book. Apologies again, Tony.

I just gave a double 6 to Greg Leisz to check out and he wound up buying it. Great sounding axe. Mid 1960's. 22.5" scale. 4 legs. blend knob, sweeet!

My 1970 Fender catalog does show a "Dual 6". It has the 2 Stringmaster pickups and came in the blonde finish only. It says the part number is 14-0820 or 14-0821 (2 part numbers?).

A 1973 Price list shows $275.00 (oh, glory!).

JOdy -

$215? Wow! That's so cheap compared to today. Just curious, what did a Custom and a 4 neck go for back then?

If I could travel back through time, I'd seek you out Jody, and buy as many shiny brand new Fenders as I could. Singles, Doubles, Triples, Quads, Customs.....I'd get a warehouse full.

Not only would I have a goldmine when I came back to the future, I'd also have the most fabulous Steel Guitar collection in the universe! I'd line them all around my house...."wall to wall" steel guitar instead of carpet. You would have to get me some covers for them all though, to protect them from my drooling....

But seriously, I'd just be thrilled to walk into a music store back then and see a showroom full of steel guitars! Sadly, most music stores today don't even know what one is...

I recently purchased a D6 on ebay. It's a 70s model and is in pristine condition. Great Fender sound. I'll tune one neck to C6/A7 and the other to the Dobro G tuning.

Jeff, with regard to prices....in 1973, I purchased a brand new Dobro from a music store...$175.00.....in 1976, I bought another Dobro from a pawn shop. It was in 9 out of 10 condition...$250.00, and pawn shops are not known for their discount prices.

If we only knew then what we know now, we'd all have Bigsbys... , and FENDERS OF COURSE!
