Maybe all of them for all I know, but the one you can see and hear doing it is the now VERY silent Beatle, George Harrison! Go to npr.org and view the special on the 'lost Beatle tapes'. In a workup of 'All Things Must Pass' is some brief but interesting steel playing of possibly a 6 str. lap steel also pictured. To quickly find the pic in the first segment, forward to 13:35. It runs for a few seconds, and the music portion is around the same spot. Then, name that steel guitar brand. |

I couldn't find video, only audio, but the hosts say it is George playing slide: http://npr.org/programs/asc/archives/live031403/ |

I saw the picture (a still, not video), but can't identify the guitar.Much to my surprise, I discovered that John Lennon is credited with playing lap steel on "For You Blue" on the "Let It Be" album. I always assumed that George was talking about himself when he said "Elmore James' got nothing on this baby ..." |

George often played slide, but didn't somebody on here post a picture of John playing a Hofner Lap steel not too long ago? Cheers Dave |

I couldn't find a video OR a still photo of anyone playing steel ... John played the Hofner 6-string lap guitar on "For You Blue". Don't know when (if ever) he played the Gibson D-8 referred to - maybe he just owned/was given it? There is one track that always sounds to me like a lap steel, but I've never seen any confirmation on it, which is "Old Brown Shoe"... at some point I tuned my 6 string lap to a particular tuning (E7, I think) and that song just came shooting out of it! For video, use this link: http://www.npr.org/programs/asc/features/index.html Scroll down to "Lost Beatles" and click the title link, NOT the "audio only." George Harrison was my favorite slide player-not flashy, but brilliant parts and perfect execution. There's also good a piece on this page about his last album. |

If I recall correctly, there is PSG on a George song called "All Things Must Pass" written about the passing of his Mother. Not sure who played it. |

As I recall, Pete Drake played pedal steel on two tracks on that album: "All Things Must Pass" and "Behind That Locked Door." |

On Pete Drake's eponymous CD (available right here, folks ), he covers both 'Isnt it a pity' and 'Behind that locked door', and also 'Something' - making 3 George songs in all. |

I believe Pete Drake played on a LOT of tracks on "All Things Must Pass" - including the famous "slide" intro to "My Sweet Lord"... Nick |
