Jerrys Byrd invented two of them. They are his favorites:E C A G E C# C E C B A G F E The first one is called A7/C6, the latter his "diatonic" tuning. On his Excel D-8, he only strings the top neck with 7 srings for his diatonic tuning. On his bottom neck he adds a low, low A note on the 8th string to embellish the above A7/C6 tuning. carl[This message was edited by C Dixon on 24 December 2003 at 06:51 AM.] |

Ric; The 7str. E-tuning you use is the same tuning that Shot Jackson used on his 7str. Sho-Bro. “BJ”------------------ “Big John” Bechtel http://community.webtv.net/KeoniNui/BigJohnBechtels |

Great information from everyone. I especially like Jerry Byrd's A7/C6 tuning. Thanks Carl! |

Bobby Ingano likes 7-string steels. He uses the C13 with the 5th on top: (hi-to-lo) G E C A G E BbIf I had a 7-stringer, I wouldn't mind tuning it to A6: (hi-to-lo) E C# A F# E C# A There's something about the sound of an A6 that makes it more unique than a mere detuned C6. |
