Jeepers, my first post; I'm all jittery. I have been, however, addicted to the forum for some time. This place is like crack.Anyway, I recently bought a 1953 National Triple-Neck Grand Console (thru the forum--from Charlie Hase in Vancouver). It's sexy as hell, and the tone is sparkly, but it has a peculiar quirk that I would appreciate some input/advice on: The 3rd (furthest) neck is loud and ballsy, the 2nd neck is quieter, and the nearest neck is quieter still. The difference in volume between the 1st and 3rd neck is significant--so much so that I run through an overdrive pedal for a volume boost when using neck #1 to compensate. It happens whether all 3 pickups are on, or just one at a time. I'm assuming this isn't intended design, but don't know what the cause may be. Would this require a cleaning, rewinding, rewiring, pickup swapping? Anyone have experience with this? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Dwayne, have you tried to check the ohms on each of the pickup windings, maybe switching the pickups with each other might tell you a little more about the switch selecter? You might try asking this question over in electronics, those guys are very smart about this stuff.  Oh yea, welcome to the family! |

Does it have individual two position switches for each pickup? Could the switches themselves in that case have different throughput?? Just thought that might be a first step to check, before dismounting and remounting pickups... |

It just has volume, tone, and a 4-position pickup selector switch (ALL/1st/2nd/3rd).It's identical to the black 3-neck grand console here: http://www.notecannons.com/Double%20&%20triple%20neck%20lap%20steels.htm When all the pickups are on, they are each a little quieter than when they are isolated, if that gives any clues. I'd like to check the ohms like you suggest, Jesse--if I were to hook up an ohm meter, how exactly would I go about it (where do I hook it up) and what should I be looking for?
