Aloha All, I just got a GREAT deal on a recording King...I know it's a Montgomery Ward, and probably made by Gibson, but that's it...this thing has a CC blade P.U., curly maple sunburst, a bound rosewood EH150 pointed fingerboard, the body is more guitar shaped than a EH150 no shoulder, but bound front and back, and not pear shaped like a average recording king...anybody have ANY info on these beasts?..It seems like a Roy Smeck but w/ curly maple and bound fretboard....Give me all you got...Andy?..Brad? The only listing in Gruhn's Guide that comes close is a Roy Smeck Model 1023 (1939-1941). Gruhn's description includes: "blade pickup in oval housing ... 2 octagonal knobs ... glued-on back ... bound top and back (a few with screw-on back and no back binding) ... bound fingerboard with V-end ,,, peghead tapers to point ... sunburst finish." (An earlier model had peghead ornamentation of: "crown stenciled in white ... pearl rectangle with Recording King stenciled in black script ... Roy Smeck Model-AB104 stenciled in white.")Is that your guitar? |

The only Recording King steels I've seen look like this. Can you post a picture somewhere?------------------ Brad's Page of Steel A web site devoted to acoustic & electric lap steel guitars |

For what it's worth, Thin Man Music in Alameda, CA has a nice Recording King with matching amp - asking price $750. Guitar and amp are in great shape; guitar case is somewhat beat but holds the guitar.------------------ Brad's Page of Steel A web site devoted to acoustic & electric lap steel guitars |
