A friend of mine made a two string Diddly Bow and was wondering what to tune the extra string to. His single string version is tuned to "E". |

A '5' chord! I have one I made from an old dulcimer neck...part of a kit that had a cardboard body. I picked it up for $5.00 at a music store, removed the cardboard and tie-wrapped two brass bowls to it, a small one at the tuner end and the bigger one at the other end. I tune it 1,5,1 (octave higher) and have a blast with it. It sure turns people's heads...first they laugh when they see it, then when they hear it, they stop laughing. Very eastern sounding Jay |

I would have chosen a root and a fifth,- the most basic harmony there is for one of the most basic instruments.Steinar ------------------ www.gregertsen.com

If his first string is tuned to E, his second string should be tuned to E. |

a 4th like a B and an E as in the hi side of a normal guitar would be a "lead diddley"a 1 and 5 power chord would be a "rhythm didley" tuned to 1 and #4 it would be a "Miles Diddley" Just add heroin and bop like crazy! |

Here's my tuning chart for my D2 Diddly: Front neck 1.A 2.C Back neck 1. D 2. G I use my back neck for Bluegrass and my front neck for Western Swing. I'd like someone to design a crossover.

Wayne,Here is a chart that might help figuring out what "Bow" tunings to try ....by what a tuning affords up and down the board; and by examining what others' suggestions here afford. In quickly looking it over I see that a tuning of 6 / 1 affords some Maj7 and min7 patterns that appeal to me for their groupings, Maj7 and Dom7 scale notes proximities and blues voices ...straight bar. Cool thing about diddley bow is learning the template where it's 2 notes are complimentary (contained in) different scales / chords .....so that jamming along with other Musicians can move along triad and extension note boxes and groupings, and look / sound like quite a trick ...when all it is is knowing the template! slants on a diddley wouldbe easyto deal with as your ears only have to hear 2 noteslike a 3rd could be minor w reverse slant, suspended with a forward. and others of course. BTW Howard, thats a COPEDANT not a tuning chart, use proper terminology or no rimshots! |

I can't decide whether to set mine up like Emmons or Day but I do know that the black ones sound better.. |

Howard- If it ain't got any pedals, it can't be a copedant. It's a tuning chart. |
