There are some very cool old photos for sale on eBay, ending in about 2 days. They seem to be from the 1940's and of cowboy singers and groups of the day, including STEEL PLAYERS. Granpappy Jones in a few and Smokie Rogers too! Check the sellers other auctions for more. the seller stated that the Oklahoma Wranglers performed with Hank Williams--true , recorded with any how but it was not this band That Oklahoma Wranglers was the 3 Willis Brothers Guy, Vic and Skeeter. A Fine group. Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around a hit it the 1960s. Al |

Yeah, wrong group members, but it's fun to see those old photos and the steel players who worked in live radio. I believe that is the same Smokey Joe who worked with Spade Cooley. Can you confirm that? |

I remember Granpap and the carson cowboys. Us kids called them the cowson carboys. I believe that CURLEY Nelson was Frankie Nelson and lived in Granite City IL. I used to listen to him all the time and try to copy his tone. There was another Steeler at the same time with Uncle Dick Slack show and his name was frankie townsend. I believe townsend spent most of his time singing in a trio. The slack group included Skeets Yaney, Wade Ray and others. CC |

the uncle dick slack show was emceed by Pappy Cheshire. The slack show was a smoother show but I believe the carson bunch had more fun. cc |

Thanks for the heads-up, Dan. A whole passel of these are coming to live a few miles to your east. Only thing I went for and missed was a single photo of an all-girl trio with a Gibson tenor. Someone paid too much for that, thanks to what I thought was pre-emptive bidding as I had to commit early and big, then drive 45 minutes to work (91214 to 90036). This eBay category, populated as it is with infinite Britneys, Mariahs, Avrils, Ashlees, Jessicas and Hilarys, was heretofore a little off my eBay-dar. Uke da man! |
