My opinion: Pass up the Studio DeLuxe and get a Deluxe 6 or 8--with the Stringmaster-type pickups. Far superior to the other two steels. |

A Champion is the pre-55 student model, with the mother of pearl body and "Broadcaster" pickup Tele guys are so fond of. A Champ is the post-55 student model, that has the angled plastic covered Stratocaster type pickup (it's basically a non-legged single pickup Deluxe 6). A Studio Deluxe is a basically a Champ with legs. Or a Deluxe 6 with one pickup, however you want to look at it. Andy, I'd say the difference will be the difference between a Telecaster in the bridge position (Champion) and a Stratocaster in the bridge position (Studio Deluxe). Not a huge differenece, really. I like having a guitar with legs, so there's my input. CS[This message was edited by Chris Scruggs on 04 February 2005 at 01:59 PM.] |

I don't love those strat/mustang type pickups. Always wanted to replace mine with something more modern; posibly noisless like a Barden. But these guitars do sound really good especially for funky gospel type stuff. Listen to "Can't Nobody Do me like Jesus" by Aubry Ghent. It's some of the funkiest, coolest, steel playing you'll ever hear. |

Andy-- If you're looking for a Fender singleneck with fabulous tone, check out the Deluxe 8 with trapezoid pickup. They've been going on eBay for $575-650. -Steve |

Andy, I notice by your later thread that you're considering a multi-neck Fender-- in that case take a look at the Dual Professional (D-6 or D-8) with the trapezoids. If there's a way for you to "try before you buy", see if you can compare the sound of "traps" to the Stringmaster p/ups-- some prefer one sound, some the other. Let us know what you think.
