I am very fond of the Hawaiian song "Hilo" from the Sol Hoopii collection "Master of the Hawaiian Guitar vol. 1". Can anyone tell me where I can find a copy of the lyrics for this and any other Hawaiian songs? Thank you. -Tim |

Hi Tim, The tune on that CD is usually referred to nowadays as "Hilo Hanakahi". The lyrics are here: http://huapala.org/Hi/Hilo_Hanakahi.html This site also contains many other Hawaiian songs. |

Hey. I'm looking for some more lyrical help. I was looking for the words for "Sweet Lei Lehua" on this site: http://catalog.songsearch.net/catalog/s/sol_hoopii.html but the lyrics there don't match what I'm hearing. Can you point me to the lyrics for the version that Sol Hoopii does on the "Master of The Hawaiian Guitar vol. 1" CD? -Tim |

Just to let you all know too, I am writing a companion book for "Master of the Hawaiian Guitar Vol. 1", with complete musical and tablature transcriptions, and lyrics for each and every song on the CD. I'll keep you all posted. -Tim |

Tim, The song they are singing is actually Na Moku Eha (The Four Islands), written by J. Kealoha according to my Kings Book of Hawaiian Melodies. I think perhaps it is mislabled on the Sol vol. 1 CD as Sweet Lei Lehua? |

I think Scott got it slightly mixed up. The song "Sweet Lei Lehua" on Sol Hoopii Vol 1 is usually known as "Hanohano Hawaii": http://huapala.org/ha/Hanohano_Hawaii.html The song "Hano Hano Hawaii" on Sol Hoopii Vol 2 is actually "Na Moku Eha". |

Ugh, sorry to add misinformation to an already somewhat confusing situation. Next time, I will think twice before jumping in there. Yes, of course Gary got it exactly right. Two (lyrically) similar songs about the Hawaiian Islands. By the way, I am really looking forward to your book! As has been commented on before, this is a great time to play/study the Hawaiian steel guitar! |

Does "Kilohana" (from the same CD) have a title it is more commonly known as too? -Tim |

"Kilohana": http://www.huapala.org/R/Rain_kilihune.html There are a few places where the lyrics are slightly different than the Sol Hoopii recording. |
