Does anyone know offhand what current lap steels have enough room for a Hipshot Trilogy bridge? I'd like to be able to buy an "off-the-rack" guitar to modify, rather than build or have someone build one from the ground up.

Thanks in advance,
John

John

Search for a thread on CruzTone guitars by Colin Adler here in No Peddlers. He is building lap steels with the Hipshot Trilogy.
Good luck

John-- The Trilogy is 3 1/16" long (north-south); the 8-string unit is 3 1/2" wide (the 6-stringer may be a bit more narrow). A Melobar lap steel might barely accomodate this unit; a West Coast Steel definitely would, with room left over. There may be one or two others I don't know about. You might also call (not e-mail) Dave or Jason at Hipshot Products: in addition to retailing the Trilogy, with roller bridge/nut components to help it work, they have a lap steel in development which might be on the market soon. Good luck with your quest.... --Steve

Thanks! I completely forgot about the CruzTone! I will also follow up with Hipshot.

I got one with a custom delrin bridge that was very close to the Trilogy mechanism onto a Morell Pro 6. With a Hipshot roller. Worked great but took some massaging to get it on there.

I'm supposed to try out Colin's Cruz-tone soon.

BTW Hipshot and Dave Borisoff ROCK!

This guitar, CruzTone serial #002 is still available for $1200. It has the Lollar/Aiello pickup, Hipshot Trilogy, roller nut and bridge, Bobbe Seymour screw-on legs, light weight hard case.

It has huge tone, rich and full, sweet to twang.
I am currently building orders for 6 and 8 stringers, with and without Trilogy. I am also doing a test to choose a second pickup to use on these guitars. I just ordered a P90 from Jason yesterday to try on the 6er. I think it should be pretty strong.

The new models will have an anodized fretboard with colors available. One order is to have a turquoise fretboard and another will have a hula girl graphic.

I will post pictures soon. Watch for the new website in a week or two.
