Hi,

I bought a Paul Beard Setup DVD off ebay and what I received looks like a pirate copy burnt on a computer. Moreover after a couple of minutes there is no sound. I can't even use the thing!
The seller claims it is an original. Here's what he wrote:

"So what are you, a collector of original guitar repair dvds, Or did you want the information provided
on the dvd? Do you think the value will go up on an original, you are a collector? If there was a
problem with your dvd I will gladly send you a new one, only how do you know that this is not an
original? I have many of these old dvds and tapes that I bought from an old guitar shop that was going
out of business and they are all not of the highest production value. What do you want to do?"

I would like to know how a legit the Beard Setup DVD is supposed to look like. I think he just took advantage of my being overseas. Thanks for your help.

Contact Ebay through their Safe Harbor department and you can send them the email to deal with that. What a thief.

I've just done that. Do you think people at Beard's should know about that?

Could it be that the DVD is recorded in NTSC format and you're trying to watch it on a PAL-only system? Are you able to watch it on a different system (for example, a different DVD player or a DVD-player equipped computer)?
I'd certainly take advantage of the seller's offer to replace the DVD you already have. Sounds like a bit of communication with the seller should clear up any issues you have.
For what it's worth, I was unaware that the Beard setup video was available on DVD.

Yes, you are right... I checked on the website. The video is only available on VHS. D'oh!

I use a multi-standard DVD player. The DVD plays just fine for a couple of minutes than the sounds goes off. It doesn't seem to be a format problem. Anyhow, I am still quite mad at myslef for being so gulible! He could rip me off because I let him!

The DVD's are burned on a budget and use a plain paper cover inside a vinyl sleeve. Nothing fancy.

I'm betting that it is an original that is having a hard time in a somewhat older player.

Do you suppose he's kidding? I can't imagine a life so dull!

(Sorry you're having problems, Yann. The Beard video is a great way to get the confidence to "open the hood" on a resonator guitar.)
