Hey, you folks in Hawai'i...please kokua this old haole boy...Could someone please post the English lyrics to "KANAKA WAI WAI" (Also sometimes known as "Let Me Walk Through Paradise With You, Lord"). As you know, it's a beautiful mele. I have played it so many times while in Hawai'i, however I have never learned the lyrics which I'd like to teach to my class. Much appreciated http://www3.telus.net/public/lake_r/ [This message was edited by George Keoki Lake on 29 May 2006 at 01:44 PM.] |

I was looking at the English words on the huapala website but it differs greatly from the way we actually sing it.Here's the English version I've always heard and the way I sing it. KANAKA WAI WAI Let me walk through paradise with you Lord Take my hand and lead me there. All my earthly treasures I will gladly give Teach me how to love, and how to share Greed and lust, and vanity were mine Lord Then I found your love divine Now on my knees, I pray I can find a way Let me walk through paradise with you. Oh, my Lord, my savior, guide my poor feet along that lonely road Faith and hope, and love will light the way before me, And I'll walk through paradise with you. Aloha, Derrick [This message was edited by Derrick Mau on 30 May 2006 at 02:59 AM.] |

Aloha Derrick....THAT'S the EXACT version I was seeking ! Mahalo, appreciated. Sorry I missed you when we were in Hawaii for 5 weeks in April. Walking for Mary is very strenuous so we didn't get around as much as we would have normally. Enjoyed seeing old pals like Keith Haugen, Kuki Among, Harold Hakuole, Kamaka Tom, Solomon Kam and that wonderful friend who is probably a legend in his own right, Jacob Kaleikini,(91). Had a great experience at Enchanted Lake luau performing with Keith and Carmen who were on the program along with Eddie Kamae, Ledward, Noelani, Gary, and a host of others including the wonderful Myrtle K. Hilo...fantastic experience for this old haole boy ! http://www3.telus.net/public/lake_r/ | |
