Larry, I have refinished several Stringmasters and I get all my materials and lacquer from: www.reranch.com I especially like their tinted clearcoat. You can get just the right "aging" tone you're looking for. |

I could use some help with this too. I have a 8 string Fender probably from the 60's. It has some dings in the finish, all about 0.25" diameter and down to the light colored wood. I would never refinish the whole thing, but I would like to fill in the spots. Can anyone tell me how to do that and what finish materials to use? |

Larry, We had this one painted creamy white, turned out real nice if I say so myself. See how bad it looked before the facelift! [This message was edited by Nick Reed on 27 September 2006 at 06:52 PM.] |

Dale, You can get a good wood filler to seal up any holes before you paint. Most Lowes or Home Depot Stores carry it. Larry, There's several different shades that look good on those Fender Stringmaster's. [This message was edited by Nick Reed on 27 September 2006 at 07:01 PM.]

If someone would be so kind as to post some pictures for me, I would show you what can be done with the right materials and a lot of patience on a couple of the Stringmasters I've redone. |

Larry, The Stringmaster with me playing belongs to my wife. (her idol is Cindy Cashdollar) I'm a pedal player. . . .I have 4 Emmons and 1 Sho-Bud. The Stringmaster cluster shot is someone elses collection. I just posted it to show you how the different colors look on a Stringmaster.Nick |

Nick,That stuff is staggering. That's a harem. You're the Hugh Hefner of Fenders. Everybody, Are there any CDs that expressly compare such Fenders so you can hear the thpical tone of each? Seymour Douncan has CDs that compare the sound of his various pickups, so I'm wondering if there's anything out there that would give the typical tone of the various Fenders. ------------------ "And if we obey God, we must disobey ourselves." --Father Mapple

The color is "Fender Blonde". You can see how the lacquer ages differently over the years. When I refinished the guitars, I used a tinted clear coat to "age" the finish so it wouldn't come out looking too stark white. These instruments are getting rather long in the tooth and we expect to see some yellowing of the lacquer. Thanks, Bill! I went to my local paint store which carries Benjamin Moore and Bruning paints. They have a color analyzer machine that can tell what is in a given finish. They mixed me up a stain that came very close. I had a triple neck '54 Fender. The top was o.k. but the underneath was scuffed up pretty bad. Used the stain, then some sealer, then laquer and it matches quite well. |
