Start here http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/strings/stringgauges.html or here http://www.alanhorvath.com/stringauges.php Maybe here http://www.countrypickin.com/help/string_gauge_chart.html I'll find more if needed. For lap steel go a gauge or 2 higher, as you don't need to bend 'em. |

Keith, Thanks for your help but those web sites don't give me the exact gauge sizes I need for a 22.5 scale in G.Do you know of any other places that can make this easy? |

How about this site? All you need to know are the notes of the six strings. http://www.hawaiiansteel.com/learning/gauges.html Ron |

Assuming you're tuning in high bass G (bass to treble G B D G B D) then the same gauges as used on most Dobro® string sets will work fine for your Fender lap steel. If you're looking for an inexpensive string set, you could use a set of regular gauge guitar strings (which typically run from .013 to .056).------------------ Brad's Page of Steel A web site devoted to acoustic & electric lap steel guitars |
