One of my local public radio stations played a cut this past weekend off of what they said was Wayne Hancock's new CD. The Cut was called, "Tulsa." I didn't get the name of the CD. He called his steel player, "Mr. Rivers." I'm guessing he meant Eddie Rivers recently of Asleep at the Wheel. The steel solo was off the chart hot. I find no words sufficient to describe it. Even expletives fall short. I don't have the necessary computer skills to link it up. But you should hear it.

I bought "Tulsa" the other day. Stands up to Wayne's best work. Awesome steel by Eddie Rivers, not to mention 3 great guitar players. Wayne states in the liner notes that he took his time recording this CD--2 1/2 days! Buy it!

Yeah, Wayne always has a stellar cast of players. I just wish they would go out on the road with him! He's had Jeremy Wakefield, Lloyd maines, Chris Miller on steel in the past... Dave Biller is certainly no slouch on standard guitar.

For those in the Pittsburgh, PA area, Wayne will be at Club Cafe, 10/28.

I recommend all of Wayne's CDs. I really dig A Town Blues and Swing Time (Live). This new one has really grown to be my favorite though. The steel is great!

I heard that he is only touring with a trio this time around. Bass, guitar and he plays rhythm. Anyone know if that's true.? Not like it matters, he will never come to Buffalo again anyway!

I don't believe Wayne Hancock has enough of a following to support going on the road with a larger group, at least from what I can tell. I went to a concert a few years ago and the crowd was disappointingly small. Between the band, soundman, doorman etc I'm sure the club lost a lot of money on that show. Jeremy Wakefield was the steel player on that gig.

I think I recall that a bandmate was tring to describe to me the steel player he saw with WH a few years ago in NY, on tour. It most certainly was Don Herron, by the description (switching off w/ fiddle.) But the next tour thru town was down to a three piece.

All times are Pacific (US)
