Since I keep coming back to this one, let me repeat that my reservations were honored and I have no real complaint with the hotel. Comparing hotel overbooking to airline overbooking is a faulty comparison. Airlines are under much tighter time constraints, whereas a hotel can hold your room all night long. Statistical overbooking model seems appropriate for airlines, not so hotels. Another key difference is that the airline sells the seat to someone else and they apply your purchase price to a future ticket or refund it. The hotels, on the other hand, charge no-shows who guarantee reservations and fail to cancel the full price. That's supposed to be your room wether you show up or not. Practically speaking, no one would be all that surprised if they showed up at 11:30 PM and learned that they'd been bumped. However, many of the people bumped indicated that they attempted to check in prior to 5 PM. [This message was edited by Ron Page on 26 September 2002 at 11:57 AM.] |

Each time I have a *confirmed* reservation, I make no assumptions and I call a day or two before to 1. make sure my reservation still exists; and 2. to give the hotel time to correct any mistakes. I also call the morning of the day I'm planning to arrive and let them know I am on the way. Should I *have* to do all this? No, but 'tis better to be safe than sorry. ------------------ |

Scotty: As you know, I haven't missed very many conventions. The first one I attended was at the Holiday Inn on Lindberg Ave., not far from the airport. I also attended one in St. Charles Mo., The show grew, and moved to the Chase-Park Plaza, and eventually to the Clarion, on the river front. It then changed hands, and became the Regal Riverfront. It has changed again, and is now the Mellinium- Sheraton Four Points. Other than management, the staff has re- mained pretty much the same. Fortunately, I have never experienced the reservation problems some had this year. I have had nothing but excelent service from this staff, from Derek, the Door man, who gets my stuff unloaded quickly, finds me a Bellman (who for the last several years has been a ver personable young man named Rich), to another Bellman named Carl, who a couple of years ago, after he got off from work, went down-town to find a pair of cuff links for me, as I had left mine at home. I don't know what caused the reservations screw-up, but all I know is, over the years, I have had nothing but the best service you could ask for. And, Scotty, the Hell with the Circus, the ISGC in St. Louis, is THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH!!!

Mr. Gundlefinger, Do you think because you moved me to the Adams changes anything! If I had wanted to stay at the Adams that's were I would have stayed. Do you think because you reduced my room to $40 for the rest of the weekend changes anything. I missed a day and a half of the convention becuse of your sorry ass service. You could have told me you did not have me a room when I called on friday morning to confirm my room. I have gotten better service from a motel 6 than I got from your your sorry Hotel.
