I've always been a shy kid growing up, But I always wanted to be a comedian, I worked hard at it, practiced my delivery and on My 1st big night,
The people laughed at me, so I had to quit.

Come to see us at Saluda! You will meet some of the Finest folks you ever saw and hear some super picking.

Just Look at this Line-up

Russ Hicks & Laney Hicks
Sonny Curtis
Walter Haynes
Herby Wallace
Randy Beavers
Bill Ferguson
Tommy Dodd
Joe Turner
Larry Moore
Roger Crawford
Clyde Bloodworth
Charles Reece
Bill Nicholson
Bill Cunningham
Tony Prior
Rob Parker
Vernon Hester
David Hall
Ernest Tuttle
Wayne Williams
David Christmas
Brett Day... Playing his 1st Show here.

Plus one other super player from Nashville that is yet unconfirmed.

Staff Band

Woody Ledford - Guitar - One of the best around anywhere
Johnny Thomas - Guitar - Exactly what I said about Woody
Bob Strickland - Guitar - Very Fine Guitarist in every way, has a lot of my respect!
Wayne Smith - Bass Guitar - One of the Very Finest around anywhere, The energizer Bunny, works all day long. The only way he can get any relief is for us to shoot him.
Wayne Stowers - Drums - Tons of experience and one of the Best around.
Jim Hartley - Drums - Terrific drummer and singer too! worked with Del Reeves and if he lived thru that he has to be good.
Jerry Reece - Drums - Terrific local Drummer, Son of Charles Reece and great Singer. That Reece Family has some musical roots.

A number of these players are members Of the Georgia Steel Guitar Association and some are members of The Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. Some Outstanding Pickers in that crowd and words can't express our appreciation for the contribution they make to the sucess of The Southern Steel Guitar Convention, Time after time after time after time. These folks have stood Shoulder to Shoulder with the members of the Saluda Shrine Club to make Saluda the best unkept secret about Steel Guitar since 1987. This will be the 71st Show since it started in 1987 and its still growing by leaps and bounds, Something is working and we ain't gonna try and fix it.

Gonna be a full day of great music and there ain't a bad player in that whole list. We are gonna kick this one off early at 9 AM and There will be some shows where we will have two players on Stage at the Same time in order to get all of this in.

The response to this show has been overwhelming! We are gonna flat wear out the staff band and some of us are gonna have to be relieving them from time to time so they can go potty and get a bite to eat. Its all for the kids that need The Shriners Childrens Hospitals. Thats what makes it fun.

How come you have Tommy's name before mine?
Why I was playing Saluda when he was just a new puppy.

Sorry Bill, I fixed it.
Bill Ferguson doesn't receive nowhere near enough credit for what he has done for The Southern Steel Guitar Convention over the years. I'm relatively new at Saluda, and don't have the benefit of knowing what took place in the early years to make Saluda what it is today. I'm sure there are others who have contributed to the sucess of Saluda and I wish there were archives that I could go back to and find out, so I could give credit where credit is due. This is not just a hand full of Shriners putting this event on, there are a great number of volunteers outside the Shrine Organization who volunteer time after time to make this the best Small Steel Guitar Convention around. To all those folks who have volunteered over the years and especially Mr Bill Ferguson, my Heartfelt Thanks and I am sure Buddy Walker and Charles Reece feel the same way.

Ok, John – I’ve got you and Steve scheduled for relationship-counseling just before the show starts on Sunday. I’ll see Larry just before that for cross-accessorizing. The diagnosis for this condition is 50-PPBS, which stands for Pathetic Pearl-Boy Syndrome in men over 50. I’ll probably tack on some additional time to address his grandiose obsession with wanting to be called Bill. Yvonne is paying me handsomely to help her husband, since his disorders are cutting in to her profits with Premier.

Doggone, Doctor Donna!
Since I'm not a Steel Guitar Player, I'm pretty dead set on having a relationship with a member of the opposite sex, Not ole Stephen.

You are starting to sound like a couple of those talk show hosts on daytime TV.

Hmmmm, this ain't gonna be no fun at all.

I had mentioned earlier in the other thread that I had a surprise Guest and would announce him when he confirmed. He has just told me that he has to be with his mother when she has eye surgery and will not be able to make it, Can maybe the November show. But I'm going to let the cat out of the bag now, its Mike Jones who you saw for several years on the Barbara Mandrell TV Show every week. Mike is an old Friend, (he ain't really that old, He was just a youngster when I first met him) and an awesome player. I hope he can make the November show, He will always be Welcome at Saluda. Its still gonna be a super show, We have 21 great Steel Guitarists confirmed. This is one show you don't want to miss.

There is a possibility that if you are listening to the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree this coming sat night, you may just hear something about The Southern Steel Guitar convention. We are trying to get the word out any way we can so Come early and claim your seat, I expect to see a record setting crowd again.

Gonna be some Great Vocalists, The Beautiful and very Talented Laney Hicks, Rob Parker, The Steel Guitarists best Friend, Jerry Braswell,One of Atlanta's and Georgia's Finest, and I hope Bill Ferguson's Band, Country River and Tommy Dodd's Band, Timeless Highway. Will be lots of singers to mix with some terrific Steel Guitar. There will be some Super Entertainment at This Show.

If you are anyplace other than the Saluda County Shrine Club on August 15th, You will be missing one of the best Southern Steel Guitar Conventions ever.
John

BTW
Stephen Gambrell and I aren't Fueding..............too much
Its our way of getting folks to come and look at this thread, Stephen is my buddy.

Stephen , Larry Moore sez Hello! and you can wear his Pearl Necklace if you want to, but the Jewelry Lady said you will have to pay for it 1st.

John, I do not have a CONFIRMATION on the Country River Band. I never really know until they show up.

2 of them live 5 hours from Saluda and that's a tough one day trip. So we will see.

Thanks for the Heads up. I really hope they can make it. We should have a big audience for them to perform for and they deserve that. These guys need to be heard and appreciated by a lot of folks. They do a Great Job.

Dancing is ok during their show and Remember, Whooping and Hollering and whistling is ok too and makes everybody play their best.

Tell me real slow, cause, I don't catch on real fast, but HOW did Buddy's post about a classy event, featuring some of the best regional AND national steel guitar talent, turn into a discussion of cross-dressing?
Buddy, Charles, and the other guys have worked hard over the years to make this the respected steel guitar event that it has become. Seeing Doug Jernigan, Herby Wallace, Russ Hicks, Randy Beavers...being allowed to play guitar with some old friends, just enjoying a day(or two)of fun and clean fellowship with guys like Bill Ferguson, Tommy Dodd, Larry(yes, THAT Larry)Moore and his precious wife...now, THAT'S good Saluda stuff! Fran Newman told me that Saluda was a "must" for her and Jeff. John Fabian? What a great guy! Charlie Ward, my buddy Joe Turner...That's Saluda.
So here's a tip of the hat to the two brains behind Saluda, Buddy and Charles! MAybe, if the rest of us live long enough, we'll acquire the good sense and taste of these two gentlemen. I love you, men!

Oops, probably my fault because of the pearls. But, you guys are so much fun to tease! Sorry, Buddy! From now on, I'll keep it serious. At least I'll TRY to keep it serious. How am I doing so far?

See ya soon

John, Can you get all the cows out of the runway for a plane to land? Does Greyhound go through Saluda? Is there train service and does the Cedar junction special still run? Just looking for a transportation mode. Will Saludas Taxi (two Mules and a skid) be there to take passengers er just 1 from and to the Airfield? Should be a heck of a show.

Hi Larry,
I know we're not really supposed to talk about this here, but it's MY turn for the Swarovski Topaz bollo tie! I know it matches your favorite boots, but you'll just have to go to Plan B - a Bandana maybe?

BTW, the BagBrell 1000Turbo Fender Re-Issue Twin Reverb prototype will be making it's debut at Saluda---any volunteers to help tote it?
