Marvin, first of all, Buddy did not receive his guitar for free. (Not that it's any of your business.) This is the way he insisted it be. Second, do you really think anyone could talk him into playing something he didn't like? |

"but I've heard some guitar players will endorse an amp but have the guts taken out and their favorite amps installed. " That's ancient news, and not the case nowadays. With barely any manufacturers giving away equipment for free...artist relation deals are dealer cost less a certain percentage, no matter who you are...that's just no the case any longer. Same with the offstage hidden amp thing. This was all stuff that happened 30 years ago. It's pretty obvious not too many folks around here have ever HAD an artist relations relationship with any major manufacturer - I see the same rumor-mill stuff posted over and over. Call one of the big guns - Fender, Mesa, PRS, Gibson, etc - ask for artist relations. Ask questions. If they will give you the time of day (most will be courteous) they'll explain how it works and what it takes to qualify. But the truckloads of free equipment don't exist any longer. Even in the 70's often endorsees used equipment that was actually owned by the manufacturer - including major bands. One example - The Byrds in the 70's didn't own any of their stage amps except Clarence White's Super Reverb. The rest was supplied by CBS. |

how do you know they are having trouble? Are you a member of the family business or a co-owner who can speak with authority ? Do you have in depth conversations with Ron Jr daily about his business plan ? Or are you just like me.. |

The Zum is not a freebie. I pay or trade for guitars in order to avoid the politics involved with an endorsement deal. I’m down to three pedal steels now: a Zum, Sierra, and a push/pull (The Blade), and am comfortable knowing I can take any or all of them any place I want and play without incident. As Bill Ferguson said, the Lord did not give me my email address or my phone number but here’s an example of why one would choose to keep certain personal information from the public. When my home phone number was available through Buddy Emmons Music, I used to get foul mouthed calls on my answering machine from someone in North Carolina, accusing me of flying over his house and spying on him. He said he knew it was me because when he looked up he could see me looking down at him through one of the windows. Another of several more wacky accusations was my sending a radio frequency to him from Nashville and zapping him in the eye while he slept. After I had my number changed he started calling Scotty’s Music, the Nashville musician’s union, Weldon Myrick, and Jeff Newman. I had him checked out and found he was an overly medicated local nuisance. If I could have had my way he’d be in a rubber room wearing paper slippers. As for my interest in the Emmons Guitar Company, I had no twenty percent ownership to sell to Fred Trogden; ever. So you might want to weigh other things he or she may have told you regarding my relationship with the company and take it for what it’s worth. Passing on this sort of second hand information brings to mind an adage from the book of a martial arts master, which is: “Those who say don’t know and those who know don’t say.” While living in California I hired an attorney to investigate my status with the Emmons Guitar Company and found my “partnership” contract was nothing more than a carefully worded agreement for royalties. When I discovered I had no ownership, I was so incensed I told my lawyer to do whatever it took to get me a release. A year or so before, I was persuaded to sign my half of the patent over to the company; so the only leg I would have had left to stand on was gone. To get my release, one of the stipulations was to give them the right to keep the name Emmons Guitar Inc., so I agreed. These facts are a matter of record due to another legal wrangling I had with the company in a Nashville court in the mid 1980’s. For the sake of the Emmons Legrande owners and potential buyers, I hope this gloom and doom scenario is all overblown nonsense and Ron Jr. can keep the doors open for them and their needs. But from my personal standpoint, I wouldn’t care if it went under tomorrow. My contribution was the designing of the Emmons push/pull model. That and my name pretty much sums up any meaningful relationship I ever had with the company. |

Yes indeed, Buddy, you are a class act and a thoughtful writer. Not once did you print the word idiot. However, reading between the lines I thought I spotted it repeatedly. I had never meet or even heard of Marvin Stegall before yesterday but I feel compelled now to apologize to you for him for making you sit and waste your time clearing up stupid gossip about your private buisness affairs. We've hit rock bottom here lately. Don |

Thanks Buddy Emmons for stepping up and setting the record straight. I have a problem with someone bringing up your name and the things of the past. As Randy Beavers stated, it really is no ones business. I see Buddy Emmons as a great steel player and a first class individual who has feelings just as we all do. Surely there is something we can discuss better than what happened between Buddy and the Emmons Guitar company. I believe Buddy Emmons deserves more respect than this to have this brought up and him being drug through the mud. I guess I am just a big Buddy Emmons fan and want to see him treated better. |

first octapost Ive ever seen. ...hehe. I wondered who that bowler hatted gentleman circling my house in a spyplane occasionally zapping me in the eye was...now i know. That explains those weird radio stations the filings in my teeth have been picking up lately too. This is possibly the greatest thread in the admittedly brief the history of the internet. hats off to everyone and god bless us all. |

What Buddy has done for steel guitar cannot be measured. His signature licks, etc. will always remain a part of PSG history. Many players including myself will usually stop what we're doing when we hear BE on the radio or TV. He's the master. While it's certainly no secret that HUGHEY is my all time favorite player, I still love BE's playing and I have the utmost respect for this man. As far as people posting such things as what's in this one(not mine), it's easy to post comments, good and bad, especially when there thousands of miles away and don't have to face people. That's easy! Just leave BE and the rest of the guys alone. I myself am devoted 110% to PSG and it's players and I'm sure I'm not the only one that is offended by such crap! |

welcome to the department of redundancy department... Marvin, check your shoes.. Thanks Buddy, and stop flying over my house, I want you to know I bought a BB gun...and I have a very tall tree in the back yard...with a little wooden seat at at the top..where I sit and wait for you to fly by everyday... and I have an 80's Legrande , if that counts for anything.. B0b, this is your chance to do something. I for one do not want to weed through Marvin's post every time I log on. I've seen on other Forums the ability to set your preferences to "ignore" certain people, so you don't have to ever view what they've written. Can that be an option here? This is MY Forum too, and I don't want to see it degraded to this level. Randy |

Besides the obvious need for flood control, and of course we can't be sure if the flood of posts is accidental or just a lack of understanding about how the forum or computers work. I use my own filtering device, after reading the very first post of this new member, I decided not to read any more. |
