![]() ![]() I just checked the guitar out. On the plus side, it works quite well. 3 pedals and 4 knee levers. More than enough to get started with. A second plus, it's LIGHT. Really easy to pick up and carry around. On the minus side, it's flimsy. In fact the one I played had been damaged. Somebody previously sat down at it and bent of of the knee levers and knocked it out of adjustment. However that's the only negative thing I found about it. The guitar is exactly what it is purported to be. An entry level instrument designed for students. I'd recommend it for that purpose. I suppose it's good enough to do gigs with, but I'd think that anybody who becomes preficient enough to do gigs will want something better. |

![]() ![]() Regarding stores like MF, etc.... I've seen a lot of these places take the strap, cord, straplocks, cleaning cloth, etc., provided by companies like Fender out of the case as soon as the guitar comes into their possession. Then those same items appear in their displays with price tags on 'em. Sometimes seems like only the greedy bastards survive these days. HH |

![]() ![]() I'm just glad to see a builder making the commitment to get Usable instruments into the hands of the folks who want them- older used steels are often so far out of adjustment that a beginner has no idea if the guitar's out of whack or he is...Mucho Kudos to Carter for all of the effort involved in getting these off the ground and out there- and also for the best steel site around- I sure wish I'd had all that information just a click away when I was getting started! Thanks to a post in their buy and sell section, I got hold of a GREAT used Carter- and I can't say enough about it, a truly excellent guitar. (Anybody want a well-roaded Mullen?) ------------------ |

![]() ![]() Hey Ann/John/Bud: I'll be checking the local stores that might still have one in stock, thanks for the tips. One query: believe it or not, I have 3 female students right now, all too short for their guitars. Would they be able to custom shorten the Starter with shorter legs, pedal rods? Any ballpark quote on that cost, if feasible? Thanks as always. I haven't seen the Starter yet, fellow forumites, but knowing the Carter Co., I have high expectations, that's a lot of guitar for the price. And over and over new students just get blocked by that high cost of entry: steel, then amp, volume pedal, bar, strings, books, tapes, lessons...yikes, the Visa's maxxed! Hope this is a good remedy for some of that. The world needs more steel players, especially younger ones, speaking of which... Anyone else see the Dixie Chicks special on NBC tonight? I think there's gonna be a lot of teenage gals busting down the doors of me and other instructors any minute, demanding steel and Dobro lessons, and I'm jazzed to see REALLY young people, even pre-teens, so stoked on a great new style of country, led by those 3 extremely talented women. They rock! |

![]() ![]() We have no plans for underheight at this point . . . Any such items offered in the future will be listed under FEATURES or EXTRAS at www.CarterStarter.com. So, keep your eye on that web site for info. Ann Fabian [This message was edited by Ann Fabian on 21 November 2000 at 07:32 AM.] |
