Depends, what kinda shape is your mother-in-law in?

Seriously though, what an awesome guitar, I remember when this surfaced a few years back. If I sold everthing I own, and rolled a few bums for their spare change, I may make the reserve!

Ok, fellas, let's have a little fun with this one. I'll offer a copy of my CD, "Finally Here", to whomever comes closest to guessing the final bid price on this guitar (whether it reaches the reserve or not). Post your guesses right here in this thread.

Only one guess per contestant, and you may not edit or update your guess after its original posting (If I see a "This message was edited by... etc" at the bottom of your post, yer outta there.

Also, of course, the seller and bidders on the guitar are not eligible to participate!

Only guesses that are posted before the bid price crosses the $1,000 mark will be accepted. (If you were gonna guess less than that, you're automatically disqualified, anyway )

Oh, one other thing: the auction closes on June 19, while I'm away in Italy, without internet contact (aaaughh!) so I won't know until around July 7 or 8 who won, so don't expect the CD to arrive until a few days after that, okay?

Enjoy!

Point of Order: Do you mean "closest to guessing the final bid price on this guitar" WITHOUT going over the actual sales price?

If that is indeed the case, and considering that this item will probably attract only a relatively small number of informed - though no doubt wealthy - bidders, I WILL GUESS $10521.52.

Thank-you,
(the lovely and very fetching) Carol Merrill

Good question, Steve (for a change ) No, I'll just take whoever gets closest to the final bid price, regardless of whether it's over or under.

I'll guess $3200. I'd pay that for it if I wanted a divorce.

A divorce is cheaper, if'n ya shop around a little bit.

Hey! Here's an idea. How 'bout "time-sharing" on this guitar?? We can pool together our meager funds and then share the guitar! So what if you only get to play it for three months out of the year? That's better than never, ain't it? So 4 of you guys just get together and decide what's your top dollar bid, divide it by 4 and designate somebody to "do your bidding". If ya win, each of ya gets it for 3 months out of the year. Sound like a plan?

Thanks Jim! I love to gamble when it costs me nothing.
Put me down for: $4888.

That's a bargain compared to vintage Teles, Stats, etc.

OK, Frank. You do that.

Actually, this is a publicity stunt that my label cooked up to ferret out which ones of you guys don't already own the CD, so we can harass you with direct mail.

$4775, though that figure won't reach the reserve.

Since I already own Jim's CD, I will donate my copy to a needy or homeless person. Should be plenty of those among the steel guitar population!

Chris, that's a nice offer for my mother-in-law but I don't think you'd get the Bigsby for it

Keep on pickin'!

I wrote to buy one from Paul Bigsby and he told me $1000. (in the 50's?)

I foolishly said no, course I didn't have that kind of money in those days.

I could have bought a new CADILLAC for that, and I couldn't afford that either.

But how about $6700. ?..........al

There have been 20 bids in the last 2 days, folks, with some obvious interest by at least 2 repeat bidders. This could get interesting...

I was always aware the fret graduation was not consistent on my Bigsby guitars. Looking at the pictures of the one on e/bay clearly shows the distance between the 7th and 8th frets to be wider than the distance between the 8th and 9th frets, which is contradictory to the mathematical formula for the graduated scale. Wish I had asked Paul Bigsby about that, but at the time I didn't have an inquiring mind.
