This is a paragraph from an article in the Nashville City News and my responce.

WWYZ-FM Hartford (Conn.) Program Director Jay McCarthy says smaller AM country stations and those in rural markets in the South and West would be natural fits for the syndicate. But he said his would probably not be one of them.

"Would we pick up the Opry in syndication? That's a big question," McCarthy said. "They didn't have a country station in Connecticut until we started it here 13 years ago. We don't play `Beer Run' (a current hit duet with Garth Brooks and George Jones) because people here don't know who George Jones is. We're almost an adult contemporary country station."

McCarthy's play list, unusual for a country station, includes a healthy dose of The Eagles and Jimmy Buffett.
______________________________________________

He only thinks people in Hartford don't know who George Jones is.

Anyone up near Hartford care to respond?

Dick Shuey claims to have programmed country
music in Hartford from 1967 to 70.

Connecticut has a CCMA the Conn. Country music association that has a ton of members in the Hartford area and I can assure you they know who George JOnes is.When the Waterbury Station went down and The Hartford Station popped up the listeners changed with the music, not the people who still love and support "Country Music". Put on a Country Show in Conn and they pack it.In fact they wander over the line into Mass when ole George played the "Big "E".And they use to fill up the clubs every weekend..When a real Country Station surfaces and wherever good country Music is played whether it be the Durham Fair or Lake Compounce they will show their presence...Promoters like Tex Pavel and "Stretch" Norton, Jake Sadowsky (Indian Ranch) sure did their part.I would like to add That NEW ENGLAN IN GENERAL has long been and still is a Hot bed for Traditional Country Music.

Well now we're in my back yard. My wife and I are both born and raised from Ct. ( now in NC ) My wife's dad played a Fender Triple for probably 30 years on the bandstands throught Ct and New England from the 50's through the early 80's before he passed. Bonnie sang with him for a good part of the seventies. I started playing Steel and Country early 70's and played the same clubs and shows up and down the NE coast , NYC to Boston and all through Ct. until we left Ct around 89. Right in the middle of the Nutmeg state were several Fairgrounds with amusements that featured traveling Nashville types weekly that were in the NE area. Many of us that were playing in groups opened many shows that featured name artists. A few of us ( not me although I was offered a couple of times ) went on short road gigs with many of them while in the NE . Buddy Emmons, Loyd green, Jeff Newman, Doug Jernigan, Reece Anderson, Buddy Charleton, Scotty and many many more did Steel concerts
throughout Ct as well. Now I ask you, how would it be possible to hear Bartender Blues in Ct and not know who the possum was ?

Oh yes, just another little note, If George was so unknown, how did the famous dude from the Cape, you know, James Taylor, find out about George and record some tunes with him that had national airplay ?

What kind of moron would even suggest such a stupid thing..
