This,from the Nashville Tennessean

(12/13/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- Carlene Carter, who charted two top five country songs ("I Fell In Love" and "Come On Back") in the early 1990s, was arrested in Nashville on Thursday (December 12) on two charges of identity theft for allegedly using someone else's identity to obtain prescription drugs.
Carter, who is the stepdaughter of Johnny Cash and daughter of June Carter, has a history of drug abuse and has been incarcerated before on different charges.
According to the Tennessean, the singer is jailed on $5,000 bail.

On a regular basis, I work and play with one of the most gifted and imaginative guitar players I've ever heard. As fate would have it, he's also a junkie, it can be really difficult on everybody.

I've heard that the problem is somewhat hereditary. I've never heard of June having a problem though. I think Carlene's father is Carl Smith, who I don't associate with substance abuse problems either. I always enjoyed her music. Hope she'll be OK.

That's really too bad for her -- I hope she can get some good help to turn that part of her life around. IMHO she has a lot going for her -- looks, talent, and family.

I think, by far the saddest and most shocking story of this sort has got to be that of Vance Terry and his demise. That left a shadow over my thoughts for almost a year after I read it and it still sends a shiver up my spine. There but for the Grace of God go I.....

Yeah, I met Vance and so when I heard the various stories, they had a human face for me, which made it more real than reading a story in the paper that might have a photo.

And another amazing thing about the above story is that, despite national success, she apparently didn't have even $5,000 to post her bail; or lots of wealthy Nashville music-biz friends who'd pull that out of their lunch-money jars to keep her out of jail... sounds peculiar...

Jim,
Sometimes the best thing for the person is to leave them in jail. It might get their attention.

You are correct. No Christian should ever feel superior to any one else. That is indeed a sin. For Jesus said, "the least among you shall be great, and the greatest shall be least.."

However, Paul told us "to rebuke sin". Sadly, many who are not believers, love to quote certain passages in Jesus' holy word to say we are "judging" when we rebuke sin.

Not so. Because all sinners INCLUDING myself needs to hear that we are sinning often. For if not, sin becomes the norm and then it is said "it is not sin" And this is the gravest of sins. Because it is tantamount to calling Jesus' holy word, a lie!

May Jesus right all wrongs,

carl

I just gotta correct the statement, "There but for the grace of God go I," as applied to someone less fortunate or into drugs as in this post.

The grace of God applies only to your ticket to heaven. Through His grace and His mercy we who believe in Christ are covered and given the ticket. Let's not cheapen it in any other fashion.

Gee, Ken...I thought that was what I wanted to say but I was thinking of some old lyrics by Luke The Drifter and perhaps a little bit of his Just A Picture From Life's Other Side. He was surely a classic example of excess and yet his lyrics showed an almost Devine Intervention. I always thought that was why so many of his audience could relate to his songs. He touched many a hearstring with his words and still does; desite his life style and untimely death. I'd like to think Someone was guiding his hand and that he (Hank...) would appreciate that.

Regards, Paul

I was not trying to demean your thoughts, in fact I agree with you when you say someone was guiding Hanks hand.

To illustrate,it takes divine guidence to make a great preacher, or a great musician, but only the grace of God will allow them, or us, entrance into forever existance with God.
