Author | Topic: who played steel on these Lefty Frizzell tunes? |

![]() I searched through some previous SGForum threads, and learned that Curley Chalker played steel on Lefty's classic, "Always Late (With Your Kisses)." From Lefty's discography, it looks like Chalker could have played (and probably did, for all I know) on the following classics as well, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me for sure who played steel on the following: "I Love You 1000 Ways" -- "If You've Got the Money" -- "Shine, Shave, Shower" -- "Don't Think It Ain't Been Fun, Dear" -- "Look At What Love Will Do" Is Chalker on all of these, or were other players involved? (I'm talking about the original versions, at least. All of the latter were originally recorded for Columbia Records on 7/25/1950, 9/21/1950 and 5/24/1951.) The steel playing on these tunes is great! If I wanted to try to figure out a lick or two of these songs on my 8-string non-pedal, what might be a good tuning to use? |

![]() Cool-- thanks for the info, Walter! I do appreciate it. David, what the heck does "cherce" mean? I assumed it is French, and spent longer that I care to admit yesterday trying to find a translation on more than one online French>English dictionary, but no luck. Would anyone hazard a guess which non-pedal tuning(s) were used on some of these songs? [This message was edited by John Pelz on 28 April 2004 at 05:06 PM.] |
