This guy is one of my all-time favorites and truly unsung. He played with so much swing, passion and ... committment is the word, I think. Nothing held back. He was Brazilian, Bola Sete means "8 ball" in portugese (he was the only black member of an otherwise white band when he got that moniker). He swings harder on a classical guitar than a slew of electric players. [This message was edited by Andy Volk on 12 May 2006 at 02:15 PM.] |

The man could play! I remember listening to some of his acoustic guitar (steel string) instrumentals back in the late sixties. Sounded like modal/open tunings from what I remember. That side of his reprotoire would be considered "new age" music now. That was back in the Dave Herman/Marconi Experiment/WMMR days for all you "older" Philly, PA members... |

Thanks so much for posting that Andy! I've known about Bola Sete for years, but I've never seen any live footage. Wow! |

What Rick said. Andy, thanks for the steady supply of amazing musical links! I wind up sending a lot of them on to a bunch of very appreciative friends. --Steve |

OK, now that we have the nomenclature straighted out, what color is the 7-ball? |

Not looking at a pool table right now, but from my mispent youth I seem to remember the 7 ball as red. He's a great player. |
