Thanks Chris, I keep hearing sevenths in there, but it's just my Anglo-Saxon ear. You've helped immensely ------------------ |

Glad to help, Basil. That's a tough nut to crack there, a very original progression. |

Everytime I hear that man sing a song like that, I can only think that he had been put on this earth for the purpose of singing. What a tremously captivating voice he had. |

Basil, this is what I get: | C#m | Cm7 | Bm7 | G#dim | Am | F#m7 | Bm | E | It's tough to identify the bass, which is what I try to follow. For the G#dim I might try E7-9. Just my try at it. Edited to say that the F#m7 could be a B7, on another listen. "A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops". If you listen to the piano player you will hear the chords and the bass player will give you the bass. The bass plays the C# and then goes up to Eb and walks down chromatically a half step for each bar until the two bars he plays B.
You can think of the D6 as a B-/D bass if you like or Gmaj7/D and the same for the C6 (A-/C bass or Fmaj7/C bass) Nice song, hope this helps. [This message was edited by Bill Hatcher on 13 December 2006 at 09:04 PM.] |

Yes, nice song. But shouldn't it be: 'The Sea and I keep lonely company'?? I mean, you wouldn't say, 'My daughter and me keep our pennies in a jar', because if your daughter spent all of hers, you'd never say 'Me keep my pennies in a jar'. Only Cookie Monster talks like that! |

Firstly I'd like to thank all who helped with the progression... Jim, I think it's called poetic licentiousness !! If you think that's a liberty, you should hear the modifications Marty made to the melody of "Don't Sing Aloha When I Go" BUT, an improvement (IMHO) |

If you need to sing Cookie Monster lyrics, you can pick up a little stompbox on Ebay that adds a sub-octave lower to your singing for $10 or $15. That and a low-quality fuzztone, and me ducks be all in a row (metaphorically). |
