Curly Chalker gave me this in about 1990. He said he used it on some of his recordings and that he hadn't used it in a long time. I have some background in electronics so he told me it "here, it quit working, don't know if it can be fixed or not, maybe you can fix it and use it, if not, well whatever...". If I remember correctly it was just a broken wire, or some other simple problem easily fixed. All the knobs were missing so I put on these old "chicken head" knobs. Anybody know when this thing was made or anything else about it? Curly didn't say where he bought it or if Buddy gave it to him or anything else about it other than what I've just written. I'd love to know more about it.

I'm wondering if that is the unit Curly used on his version of Ode To Billie Jo. If so it surely has some value. I heard a Stones record just last year that had the same Fuzz charecteristics that Curly used. So much so that it really caught my attention. Maybe Johnny Cox would know something about it as he is surely the one to know when it comes to Curly.

Regards, Paul

I've got one of them somewhere. It's a fairly decent fuzz machine. I especially liked the octave switch. It would give you a sort of harmonic in addition to the note you play using distortion. How is was done, I don't know. Buddy used it on a few recordings, too.

If this is the same unit Buddy used on (New Road Under My Wheels) Lp cut (Buddy Sings Bob Wills). And I think it is. I thought it was too cool. For that time period at least. I've come up with a similar sound using most any processor with 2 pitch shifts.Set one for tonic and the other for an octive above. Then add your Boss tone,Rat or what ever for distortion. bb

I had a unit years ago that looked just like this but was made by Foxx. It was called a Foxx tone machine. It had a good fuzz sound but I was looking for a Boss Tone sound and this didn't have it.
