Topic: 3 spring tank a Peavey amp (LTD 400)

Just about to finish the LTD 400 project. I just installed a 9EB2C1B tank in the amp. I quickly discovered I had no reverb drive circuit. I have seen and fixed this problem before on a Session 400. I had 1 resistor at 10K and two transistors to replace. Got it all back together and was overwhelmed at the reverb quality of this amp now! Nice deep rich reverb, ala my old Fender Reverb Unit!
The "9" in the code tells you it is a 3 spring. The normal tank is a 4EB2C1B. Both tanks are medium delay, I think the long delay tank may be too much for steel.
I was also amazed at the sound of this amp with the Pacer cabinet (same size as a Nashville cabinet) and a 12" Black Widow, 1203-4. Tone to the bone and all the bass you would ever need.
I re-covered the amp in 1960's Fender rough brown, Fender maroon grill (removed the aluminum strips from each side), black Tolex piping around the grill (like an Evans baffle), a small Peavey logo on the grill, brown Tolex reverb bag, a new Peavey brown leather handle is on the way to be installed. Looks like one of those little boutique amps you'd pays thousands for. What a bonus, it looks and sounds great, too!

Still waiting on the knob. I want to get a new picture with the knob, handle and speaker in place. This thing just looks incredible! Maybe I can start a new trend here! It is an Accutronics tank. You can buy one from Antique Electronics, Mojotone Supply and others. I am not sure Peavey has this particular tank. Cost is about $20.00 and freight. Be sure to swap the tank out with power off. I believe that a short to chassis ground on the reverb drive cable is what took out the transistors and resistor in this unit in the first place. |

Ken,A couple more questions, if you have the time to answer them. The reverb on my PN400 has molex connectors. Did your Accutronics tank come ready to plug in or did you have to put molex connectors on it? Any other modifications you had to make to get the thing to work? Thanks. ------------------

Are those Molex connectors on the tank, I have never seen that! There should be a Molex at the amp end and RCA jacks at the tank. |
