Thanks. I feel foolish, though. I should have done a search.

I found mine after setting in line after the volume pedal, to still have an unacceptable amount of hiss. Maybe if I tried it after my new Hilton, it would have been different. ALso, mine is 'microlitic" as you tap on it, and it comes through the amp. POssibly it was damaged.

I found it to be good in live settings, where an amount of hiss was covered up.

I set it to one repeat, .300ms, and the largest reverb, ane minimal regeneration.

Eric, I really think that your pedal may need service. Although I'm just starting to work with the RV-3, I have used several other Boss pedals, and they've all been very quiet. Much quieter than, say, Electro-Harmonix pedals. Maybe it's as simple as a loose solder joint, but that kinda noise doesn't sound normal to me. JB

I fixed it! I bought an RV-5. I twiddled all night with an RV-3 and could not get a reverb I liked. It only took seconds with the RV-5. It is dedicated to reverb only and I believe is a 24 bit unit.

When I owned an RV–3 I never had any noise-problem using Solid-State Amps., however; my biggest problem was to get a good Ratio of Reverb to Delay!

They're a Boss pedal. There are five of them on ebay right now. Looking at "completed items", they seem to go for about $100.

Kevin, if you want one let me know. I have a friend that just got an RV-5 and retired his RV-3.

I've got an RV-3, and I only use it for delay. I dunno, I guess I like good ol' spring reverb out of whatever amp I'm using. But the RV-3 DOES have some nice reverbs in it.

Steve, the RV-5 spring reverb is so close to a spring sound I can't tell the difference. I use it and an Ibannez DDL-10. I have a lot of non-reverb amps (older Fender stuff) and it works well for them. I am now even turning of the spring reverb in my other Fender amps and using the RV-5. For a pedal, it's mighty nice. I just could not get the spring sound out of an RV-3. I guess, different strokes.....
