Has anyone talked with the people at Webb Amps since Mr. Jimmie died 2 months ago. I'm wondering if the Company is still gonna operate and keep manufacturing Amps. Does the Webb family and their employees know all the little secrets Mr. Jimmie had in his head, in order to build such a great amp. I'm sure there was still a waiting list of customers before his death. Nick  |

SORRY FOR OFFENDING YOU AND MY APPOLOGIES. I AM STILL SMARTING FROM MOMS DEATH. WHE WAS IN HOSPICE FOR 4 WEEKS AND PEOPLE WERE ASKING WHAT WAS I GOING TO DO WITH HER HOUSE AND FURNISHINGS, BEFORE AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHE DIED.. yOU UNDERSTAND I DID NOT APPRECIATE IT AT ALL. FRIENDS LIKE THAT I DO NOT NEED ANY ENEMIES. A FAMILY NEEDS TIME TO GRIEVE IN THEIR OWN WAY AND SOME ARE MORE SENSATIVE THAN OUTHERS ABOUT THE EVENT. Nick. I've learned that Jimmie Webb wasn't actually the amp's designer. He had a guy named, I think, Jim Campbell who was the actual technical designer. Jimmie Webb had the investment capital and the vision of a an amp with such features and had a production ethic of extremely high build quality and ruggedness and high performance. Perhaps Mr. Campbell is still available and posesses any special knowledge of the amp's design.To be honest. The amp doesn't contain any exotic secrets that I can detect other than a very tastful tone voicing section (the 3 position switch), the use of FET's in part of the preamp for sweetness, a very rugged and loud power section, and perhaps the best built amp cabinet in history. It's actually somewhat like a Fender Twin in the way it's voiced. The separate tone control section is also clever and well done, and it's unique in that the tone control is separate from the voicing section. A decent amp tech can keep that amp alive and well. All the parts are replaceable with currently available components. As far as the future, it sure would be nice to see someone take over and keep the production line rolling. Seeing how it really was Mr. Webb's vision, it's hard to imagine someone else filling his shoes. I'm sure the family will let us know pretty soon what the plans are. Brad Sarno |
