After using the PODXT (for live shows) a few times, I found the program change option to be cumbersome at times (while playing) and of course where to mount it is another issue. Trying to change to multiple effects during the same song seemed to cause the most problems such as changing from Digital Delay to Chorus to whatever. Like anything, with enough use you can get a system down but I thought I would try a different approach, to control it. Over the weekend I designed a Microcontroller circuit and programmed it to allow me to use a remote box on the leg of my guitar and select from a series of buttons. (one per program) Each button (only 6 for now) represents a program change on the PODXT and initiate a MIDI message (program change) via the MIDI input port. I plan to add either indicator LED's or a LCD display later. It makes the changes fine but for now the changes can only be observed on the PODXT. Now I can mount the PODXT on top of my amp or anywhere practical and control program changes with the push of a button. ------------------

Pretty neat, Bob. I have problems at times, trying to set the POD where I can get at it. Tommy Dodd has a holder, but I don't want it hanging on my steel. But, I don't usually switch programs during songs so it's not the issue you would have. I think they have a remote floor controller, I guess it could be modified for a leg switch control too. |

One simple solution I found: Mount the PodXt on a drum-stand, so you can put it right next to you.To swith Chorus ON-and-OFF , just make sure this Chorus is edited into your favorite Steel Tone. All you do now switch MOD on or OFF. The Same applies for Digital Delay. If I want it off, I just hit the DELAY button. And you can do this for the STOMP button as well. You can do the same for other Tones as well. No need to save multiple versions of the Tones. ------------------ Peter den Hartogh 1978 Emmons S10 P/P; 1977 Sho-Bud D10 ProIII Custom; 1975 Fender Artist S10; Remington U12; 1947 Gibson BR4; Internationally Accredited 3D Animation Academy |

Bob, Line 6 markets a footswitch called an FSB2 that has 2 buttons. It will change programs up or down based on which button you use. The advantages for using this device is two-fold: 1) no extra power required (it connects to the POD XT via a standard CAT5 cable, available at any computer store), 2)you can line up your patches for any arrangement or song and scroll thru while playing by activating one of the two buttons on the FSB2.I am getting lots of good feedback from people using my bracket. Take a look here if you haven't seen it click here or here Whatever floats your boat, the POD XT is cool!!![This message was edited by Tommy Dodd on 17 May 2005 at 07:14 AM.] |

Nice bracket Tommy. I was thinking of getting the rack mount Pro model primarily because my rack is at my side when playing and I wouldn't have to deal with the issue of where to put the XT. |

I have used the original POD angled mount on a mike stand and found it very easy to use. Great for live work it is only inches from my RH. I have difficulty getting from one bank to another quickly. Bob, will your MIDI box scroll through banks? If so I would love one. Or better yet- to go directly from one number to another without scrolling at all. If you have a solution for me, Bob; feel free to email me at buckdilly@yahoo.com Thanks. |

Don't forget that Tommy's POD bracket can be attached to the leg of your Pac-A-Seat.Lee, from South Texas |

Tommy: I did see the FSB2 on the Line6 website but I did not like the fact that you have to scroll. If I mount the POD XT on my amp to keep it out of the way I can't see what I'm scrolling to. But thanks! The brackets look great and I may purchase one at some point. Peter: I tried that but I change to different programs during a single song. For example if I use the Mod button to select Flanger and in the same some I decide to change to Phaser, I can't do it. They are controlled by the same button. To change to Phaser (in that case) I have to use the Effects button which is what I am trying to get away from. Also, my POD XT is not mounted where I can see it.
Buck:
This is only an experiment that I'm having a little fun with. If you have a look at the PodXT Handbook page 9.2 you can see all the channels that I can program the buttons for. So far I only have 6 buttons programmed and can select the following: Button 1: Channel - 19B - Reverb, no amp Button 2: Channel - 17B - Digital Delay, No amp Button 3: Channel - 19A - Phase, no amp Button 4: Channel - 18D - Leslie, no amp Button 5: Channel - 17A - Chorus, no amp Button 6: Channel - 18B - Tube Preamp Box dimensions: 5"L X 4"W X 1"D Future enhancements: - Add up to 6 additional buttons (channel selection) - Add a 2 line LCD display (shows channel and selection) - currently I have it working but not mounted. - Add 3 additional buttons with LED's to control the Fender Steel King - Tuner Mute, Reverb, FX loop. Fender currently includes a floor switch with the Steel King but I would like to combine everything into one box.
